Mobile Phone Integration

Hi Gang,

My vin checker brough up the fact that my car has "installation kit for D net mobile telephone".

As I want to add a phone kit of sorts, can I tap into this or do I just start from scratch and ignore it.

Any help appreciated.

What is the option number ? was it 273 ?

If so, you have the wiring in place for adding a fixed Nokia mobile phone (and I suspect the antenna) - which is the hardest bit done

If you use the latest version of the control unit and cradle, its a 6310i
On the coupe the controller ends up in trunk on left behind the carpet, but I dont know where it goes on the cabriloet

Look in centre armrest glovebox, under the bottom carpet and see if there is a connector there (looks like an ethernet connector, but bigger)

You may also be able to do UHI (exchangeable cradles) if you can find a source of an adapter cable between the standard wiring and UHI and can do some surgery on the standard plastic mounting plates to take the UHI connector

It was the 273 option but I have had the centre armrest out to route wiring for my iPod but found no additional wiring lurking under there. Is it likelt to have been placed anywhere else or where do I start to trace it back/forward. I have a small bubble arial on the boot lid but think that is for the gps.

That might be for both gps and gsm.
Someone here will be able to confirm.

If its flat, then its GPS, if its got a litte bit sticking out the top its GSM/GPS - often GSM aerlais are in the rear bumper. One of the options is the phone aerial - can't remember the code though

Ok, I think 354 would be the aerial, so you dont have that. I suggest you talk to the guys at mbenznl.com who can probably supply a kit of the parts you need - but you do have some of the wiring (such as the fibre to the trunk I suspect) in place - i'd pop off the left hand trim panel and look down there in the trunk to see if you have that
