i would use the electric folding function of those wing mirrors but not use the indicators - i think that would look wrong on a 124.

All the mods i have in mind would come to a few hundred pounds so i need to be sure before i buy...

Mirrors say LHD only.

Your car is too nice to stick horrible Taiwanese bling parts to.

I'll have a look for that fuelcan bracket in the morning BTW.

The only items i would suggest from your list are the folding wing mirrors and 3rd brake light.

Parktronic is not needed unless it's a w126 SEL or w140. Does help, but some serious effort required to make it OEM, is it worth the pain ?

Folding wing mirrors is nice and easy - use w210 items and all you need to do is get bespoke framework that mates with the w124 window area. his will be a bespoke item but easily done. Wiring and functionality is a doddle.

Don't W210 mirrors on a W124 look a bit odd?

Derek,
Have you been smoking something strange? You have [presumably] paid top money for what looks like a very nice e300d estate - and from your posts you are looking after it BUT don't go and ruin it with these mods. Buy yourself a cheap project to f*** about with - dont spoil the estate - with each year it will get rarer and look ever more elegant and "old money".
Rant over.

I think the w124 and estate in particular looks good with just good paint, wheels and perhaps lowered slightly...........

SilverSaloon - You've got a cracking W124 there. I'd leave it as it is. She's a beauty!

PS. The wheels on that black estate(top left) in Maggot's post look really nice. Anyone know what they are called?

Hi

thanks for everyone's input.

I've decided to leave as is.... i do love the 124 and one of the reasons for me getting it over a 210 was because i liked the original styling etc and the fact it would be a 124 that is in top condition - maybe i forgot that for a little while. i'm still 50/50 on whether those would work or not, but i can imagine spending all the time/cash on the bits and then after a few months swapping it all back. I also agree that maybe this isnt the car to do such things on.

I do have a 124 saloon i could do this to  , but as Druk says prefer to make some space next year for a 107. :) The 107 i get will be cheap (hopefully! - and if my wife lets me) :D so maybe thats the car to do this sort of stuff to.

noooooooooo :( keep it standard. spend your money on an older merc and have fun with that.. ;)

just read the above post, ahhhh.

Derek; go and sit in a darkened room and you will feel better - leave the thing alone - she looks peachy as she is!

Personally I think you would be better spending the time doing any rust repair/touch ups (if it needs any). A time consuming job (for next year when temps warm up a bit!) but that will really keep her tip top.

124 estates are class, leave it as such

The headlamps look cheap and nasty.

Non standard fit parking sensors look cheap and nasty.

To be honest, I don't think a W124 car can ever look modern, it's part of the charm. A well cared for W124 estate with possibly a slighty larger alloy wheel, just one size up from what you have now would look pretty much perfect.

If they made a 500E Estate it would be near as damn it my perfect car, especially with your spec i'd keep it standard.

If you wish to modernise it in some way then think about more sound deadening, possibly a nicer stereo, a freshen up inside.

Dave!

Decided to keep it standard :)

i have 15" alloys on the estate and 16" alloys on the saloon - personally i prefer the 15" ones.

Only one small bit of rust has started to appear on the drivers wheel arch. I have a spare original wing that i have ready for that fix at some point, but at the moment the rust is very very minor so i'm not worried.

i have a set of leather door cards to fit.

i may consider fitting the boot nets if i can get some at a reasonable price. I notice later cars have these in the 7 seat footwells, which may be useful.

sound deadening is something i've thought about. Not sure if the effort is worth the real-world result though. I plan to replace the undershield's deadening foam though as it has deterieated.

The car is a keeper :)

For me the only modifications really needed are better dip beam headlights, a satnav and a decent stereo

I'm working on some stereo upgrades and will post up some details next year

Hi

I already have upgraded bulbs (Phillips Xtreme bulbs), silver bulbs that shine orange for indicators (to get rid of the fried egg effect) and clear side indicators from W202.

I have an MP3 player and a standard screen mounted satnav.

Its a shame W124 isnt double-din otherwise COMAND would be a nice retrofit.

APS 30 would be a nice solution, okay it doesn't look as good as COMAND but it's an orginal single DIN nav solution.

I'm happy with the mp3 player i have in there and i have a new garmin satnav. APS30 wouldnt be as good as the garmin. I'm tempted to fit one of the flip out stereos with satnav but not that concerned at the moment.

Modernising? try this!:

Some people have money but no taste.Looks crap:doh:

My W124 is standard apart from a decent stereo, sat-nav and an LED third brake light. Looks best like that!

They look lovely.I wanted them extentions on the arches that the silver one has.I did find them in Japan but they were very pricey:mad:
