Just leased E220 cdi sle, and would appreciate advice on the monthly service package Mercedes offers. Good value? Any catches?

How long are you keeping it and how many miles do you do?

3 years, 10k

So how much is the 3 year 2 service package each month and how does that compare to a minor and major service?
Plus you have to add in brake fluid change which is included in the service package.

It really is a case of working it out.

Ask your dealer their rates and what it will cost you if you pay as you go.

On your annual mileage/3 year lease go for the 3 year/2 service option-good value imho.

errr....can you really send it back at 3yrs without doing the 3rd service?

There isn't a 3yr/2 service option. But you could buy 2yrs/2 service. I think you'll get spanked if it goes back needing a service though. Some schemes demand that it's MOT'd too.

Service intervals are 15,500(or on a time basis countdown from 30 days as instructed on assyst/assyst+,usually the 30 day countdown won't appear until around 17 months if less than 15,000 miles have been covered since last service so at 10k a year on a 3 year lease 2 services should suffice).

Have to agree, you normally trade your car in a good few weeks before the 3 year period, often a month or two, so I would say the 2 year and 2 service package would be ideal as long as they include brake fluid at 2 years.
I guess if you book it in at 23.5 months old they would have to.

No - since around 2007, depending on model, MB's are on fixed service intervals and need a service every 12 months max.

Really? To be fair, I've only ever leased company cars and they generally go back late.

It's a 3yr deal so it would be around 36mths.

I do wonder if you could get the first 2 services done a month late (I think a month is OK) and then the car's computer definitely wouldn't be calling for a service at 36mths. But if the lease company notice then you're just going to get into an argument.

Thats what the handbook says but in real life situations not true-my 2008 cls which i average 7k a year in went over 17 months before a 30 day countdown started on the obd, hence over the last 3 years 2 services(1 A & 1 B) & 22,000 miles covered.

When i got my cls i took out a 2 year/2 service package at £35 a month(£840 for the duration),i had the 1st"A" service after 5 months & the 2nd "B" Service after 23 months(18 months between services) included items we're spark plugs, brake fluid, combi & air filters(the atf service would have been included if my car had reached 37k at the second service but it had only done 31,500).The total cost of the 2 services incl additional items mentioned was over £1150 so represented good value for me-hope that helps!

Whether the service pack is good value depends on the make and model and where you get the car serviced.

It tends to offer better value petrol engined cars and models which require atf change.

When I bought my car the service pack was £29 per month, so effectively £348 per service, the price has increased since then.

To date I have had the car serviced 4 times, at a cost of £170, £270, £340, £320 respectively. These costs include filters, brake fluid change etc.

My car has the 5 speed auto which is a sealed for life unit and therefore not covered for atf change with the service pack. I am fortunate to have an official mb workshop locally, which is considerably cheaper than the main dealers.

In my case the cost of any given service has been less than the service pack cost for the year, savings to date are over £300, so I'll be sticking with pay as you go.

Hope this helps.

Regards and best wishes for the new year.

Well, I did say the change-over to fixed servicing varied by model, but if the handbook said the car should be serviced annually then a warranty claim involving the engine would have been interesting!

included items we're spark plugs,...

Plugs would be an chunky priced job on your car but why were they changed at such a low mileage & age? Normally they're 4yrs/50-60K miles.

Didn't have to worry about the warranty claim scenario as car was lust coming out of 3 year warranty cover when i took out my service plan-even the service manager at mb brooklands told me not to worry about the annual service but instead respond to assyst i.e.the countdown from 15,500 to zero miles or service due in 30 days to zero on a time basis(mine has gone 18 months between last 2 services).

Car was over 4 years old at last service in october and 31,500 miles-cost of plugs £300+

I think the service plan makes a lot of sense if the timing is such that you can cover the 4yr service, where pretty well everything serviceable needs attention.

Where I'm not so sure is in situations like the OPs - the first 3yrs of a car doing lowish mileage. As someone mentioned earlier, if the car is going to need an ATF change then it's probably worthwhile, plus a lot depends on your local dealer - mine is pretty competitive, but other people have posted that London dealers are expensive so the plan makes sense there.

Thats what drew me to the plan Rory(saved me over £300 as against paying at times of servicing),now my plan has expired i will go to Ollie & jack at pcs for all my servicing & repairs.
