MoT history check: Free for all. Top cheap larks.

Hands up those of you who DIDN'T enter the details of cars they owned in the past to see what happened to them after leaving your stable..... :D

It's the first thing I do with these things!

Just checked my old Audi A4 - sold it with 142k miles on it... By the next MOT, the data suggests it had the best part of 60k miles whipped off it.

And then all the next MOT's the mileage increases as expected from the clocked one.

My old 1990 MR2 Turbo is still passing the test every year :D 25 years old so not bad..

My current bangernomic SAAB is repairing itself between tests.. last years advisories have gone away on this years MOT

Always said my car is very reliable and well maintained... the OCD in me is annoyed at the perfect MOT history destroyed by the blemish of a recorded fail due a blown bulb two years ago (followed by an immediate pass once the bulb was replaced). Arghhhh......

Was having fun checking "interesting" cars for sale, but the website stopped working yesterday:confused:

I'm hoping it's back up soon.

I wonder if the test centre gains some advantage out of conducting a failed test before retesting and passing ?

I knew my car needed new tyres and , as I had done before , purchased tyres and arranged for my local garage to fit them then carry out the MOT .

Looking just now , I see the car was failed on the two rear tyres ( which I'd have said were evenly worn pretty much on the limit , and certainly just above the tread wear indicators ) then retested and passed , all on the same date , with the same recorded mileage and no additional charge for the 'extra' test .

Maybe the garage gains some benefit in statistics through this ?

The MoT stations are 'expected' to fail a percentage of cars by VOSA.
If they don't find issues the the computer will flag up their garage and they'll be high on the list for a VOSA visit/test MoT.
That possibly.. accounts for the fails and the quick free retests ;)

I noticed the same today but found this on Goggle

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

Ahh, thanks, that's great.

Only one problem, now my car doesn't come up with the current reg, which has been on it for 2 years, but the original reg when the car was registered:confused:

Also checked a '99 V-reg car, but it only displayed the current MOT test status, nothing previous at all - strange.

Good to know my old (completely rebuilt) 1971 Lotus Elan DHC Sprint is still going, but only 6300 miles on it now :dk:

Only had about 30K when I sold it back in 1980.......
