Mot prep

If you can afford to run the car you bought, why the hell would you be worried about an MOT test? :D  :D

Hate the thought of being ripped off, simple love.. she is my pride and joy !! First go of an Indie and come on everyone feels the dread of mot day !! [emoji317] x

No dread if you have looked after your car - "Simples"

Sorry, why would you not check the car over before?. You could buy a Veyron and still have a blown bulb the day before. Prep the car so the mot process is as painless as possible and you don't have to come back.

I have thoroughly checked my car, I was simply asking for advice, to check if I'd missed anything!!. My first Mercedes, I don't see anything wrong with asking advice from a Mercedes forum??.

Avoid ANY MOT stations that have a workshop....if they're short of work, the incentive is to "find" problerms for them to fix.

No-workshop MOT stations have no incentive to fail you, and most of them are well-organised (because MOTs are all they do) so you will be in and out in 40 minutes or so. Not worth leaving the place, so long as they have a tea machine!

Don't forget that if it fails its off the road until it passes even if there's time left on the old ticket. Fail is fail.

Yes... the DVLA website says that if it fails then you can 'take it away', but they don't actually say that you can 'drive it away'. :dk:

She never said anything about money. She just wanted to make sure she's not missed anything to give the best possible chance of good news when the guy phones her.

I'm as fastidious as the next man when it comes to car care, but don't tell me you haven't done all your pre-MOT checks and had it fail anyway.

The spare tyre is not a testable item unless it is fitted to the car as one of the 4 road wheels.

Has this changed?

I recall it being only tested if in the car i.e. the boot not just on a hub.

Could be outdated.

Indeed, I remember it being that if you carried a spare it had to be legal.

I often don't have it in the car. - When's the last time you got a flat and couldn't have the car recovered somewhere?
