My CL failed mot because steering lock not working. On investigation following advice given by others on the forum the car does not have a steering lock, the lock which complies with MOT is fitted to gear lever, probably similar to SAAB system.

This may be applicable to other Mercs of similar vintage.

Worth remembering if you are getting car tested and mechanic is unaware of this method of locking transmission.

That’s why you only have MB specialists sort out your car :)

Unfortunately local Indie is not an mot testing station, main dealer not an option due to labour charges.

Indie is very good but even he was surprised that it did not have steering lock but he quickly found out about transmission lock.

Will see if I get a bill from mot station
