Motoring militia bomb parking meters

A £5,000 reward has been offered to catch the mastermind behind the bombing of 200 parking meters.
More than £300,000 damage has been caused to the ticket machines with vandals - thought to be disgruntled motorists - stuffing explosive devices into coin slots.
Police in Lewes, East Sussex had offered a £3,000 reward, but the culprits replied by blowing up another meter. The local council has now added another £2,000 to the fund.
The spate began two years ago after the district council introduced parking meters to reduce congestion on the town’s narrow streets.

What are your view's ??

terrorism or vandalism ???

These solar powered monsters are turning up everywhere as they don't need the civil works that the old mains-powered beasties did. One paving slab up and a small hole and there's another stealth tax box up and running providing income for more shiny bums to be employed to watch over us.

I live near Stratford and these things are suddenly on every road within a mile of the town centre.

I think we are starting to see the beginnings of a rebellion against the relentless march of control-freak government. Even the British have their limits.

Left unchecked we will pay for every inch when we move and be by a meter whenever we come to a voluntary stop (oh and then pay tax to park at work).

I would never blow a machine up but I understand the frustration that drives the motivation behind it.

Action speaks louder than words!

Plenty of work for them in the Midlands if they want a job especially the hospitals

I'd rather they blew up the selfish idiots who park in bus stops or anywhere thinking putting hazard lights on is acceptable  . What's wrong with a parking meter that charges 10p for 12 minutes? Car parks are far worse with minimum stay or fees of £1 a go.

or 20p for 10 minutes like the ones in W1 in London?

In response to criticism of the parking scheme East Sussex County Council has changed the traffic wardens' red uniforms, partly because it was considered to be an aggressive colour that had earned them the nickname the "red devils". Their new outfit is blue. And the new term of abuse for them? The "blue meanies".

Ah, that will really confuse them.

Vandalism but not terrorism. The culprits need to be very careful as the punishments for 'conspiring to cause explosions' and/or anti terrorism laws are far harsher than simple criminal damage:eek:

They would be better off pouring acid or hot tar into them! Not that I'm advocating such action you understand!

Good. They're nothing to do with congestion, and everything to do with filling council coffers.

They don't give change. They don't accept credit cards. Some of them won't even let you pass your ticket on to somebody else, by insisting on the first 3 letters of your registration.

Now if only somebody could do the same to Traffic Wardens (non lethal of course), perhaps a nice 'cow****' bomb or something. Make they smell as bad as they act.

What I dont understand is the mentality of people who destroy things to save a few p. I take it that the problem is far worse in Scotland ? :o

It would have been far more sensible to bombard these units with an EMP gun made from a car battery, ignition coil and an old TV antenna. All found at the local rubbish dump and totally lethal to cars and machines.

That way the machines fail without evidence of tampering and the punch line is that it can be done from several metres away with no visible sign of attending the scene.

You can only imagine the vendor trying to explain the high return rate only to find that once they lose the contract the next vendor gets the same problem.

You also have to wonder if the profit in making these machines doesnt perhaps justify breaking them.

How do you make an EMP gun like that Miro ? I would be keen to know .....

Imagine someone cuts you up , you could just evaporate him ......

I can tell you though that after being on my firefighting course today , many more people are killed by chip pan fires in Scotland than England ..... ;)

Apparently it's because they all come in legless after the pub and think ' I'll have some chips ......' then they fall asleep and get barbequed ......

One less stingy Scotsman I suppose ;) .

If you fired an EMP from your car, Howard, there'd be two of you stationary...

What you really want is the Angel Light :D

EMP gun out of an ignition coil and an antenna? Now I really do want to get a plan for that! What sort of range would it have? and how long would an electronic board need to be exposed to the radiation to be affected? Also, how would a metal case/shielding affect it?

Just as a THEORETICAL example (:p) say it was shielded by a bright orange metal box, and you were driving down the road at 30mph, how stable would you need to keep it to dry the circuit board? :p

I jest, (also because I don't have such a tool!), but something to disable gatso's at a distance would be nice :p

Yaay! Go vandals!

On a different tack, what kind of explosive is small enough that it can fit into a coin slot, but dangerous enough to cause that sort of damage?

The damage to those meters is outragous.
I'm not at all appreciative of having to pay to park but meters do a good job of keeping traffic moving out of bays so they are clear for the next user.

Obviously they make money but it's rediculous to damage them because where will the money to repair them come from, the local Council tax payer.

Haven't you seen... uhmm, what movie was it, I think it was one of the James Bonds, where he has a stack of "coins" made with C4? :p

Alternatively, as the box if almost fully enclosed, I'm assuming pouring petrol (or lighter fluid) into it, then shoving a wick/rag will do the trick too...

The EMP gun was demonstated rather effectively on TV and it was made from junk. The guy used a parabolic UHF TV antenna with a roof TV antenna and the tuning of the attached antennas produced a high intensity EMP pulse combined with the arcing of the ignition coil.

It destroyed a brand new car within 15 seconds. Nothing in the car would work. It would similarly destroy anything electronic within seconds, shielded or not it makes no difference. The amplitude of the signal makes it invasive.

I can assure you that a large EMP will similarly destroy a W203. I had the misfortune to drive over a bridge as the actuation motor was moving into the rest position and I discovered that braking, acceleration, indication and radio noise were all active at the same time. The people behind me were convinced that honking would scare the evil spirits away as my car came to a rolling stop after the ME unit freaked out.

Now see what you have done Miro, you have got him excited.:D

Think we should not continue this discussion if you all want to stay out of jail.
