Who know how to change the Album, Artist, Genre and # columns of MP3 files where the names of the MP3 files already exist?

Currently they are blank.

I assume you're referring to the MP3 tags, which contain this information, which is displayed by an MP3 player while the song is playing. Any good MP3 player should allow you to edit these, Winamp for example. Windows Media Payer also allows you to edit these fields. They are completely independent of the file name.

Yes, I ripped the CD with some Encoder to MP3, these fields are blank. In the Garmin sat nav, there are samples so it can be grouped as albums, artists or genre. Can't I used Windows File Explorer to populate these fields? I shall try your suggestions.

Windows File Explorer cannot edit these fields. If you use Winamp or Windows Media Player it should, if the CD is a known one, pick them up from the online database, in fact it should have picked them up before your ripped the CD. Otherwise you must edit these fields yourself

No luck with Window Media Player, trying Winamp. Used Gamut and Express Rip to encode from CDs.

No luck with Winamp too. Do I have to use Winamp to rip the cd to obtain all the info or can I edit it?

In windows media player - right click on the track and select "advanced tag editor" to edit the MP3 tags - easy really.

Trying it and thanks.

Yeah it works. Many Thanks.

Can change the contents of the album tag and reflected and effected in Tagmaster but not reflected and effected in Garmin MP3 player or Windows File Explorer???

yes it can :)

right click on the file,

select "properties"

select "summary"

select "advanced"

edit away to your hearts content

you can also fill in the Album title, artist, genre, date and any other "common" info that applies to a group of tracks by selecting them all and following the above procedure - naturally, you will have to go back and fill in the song title for each individual song

You will only see the tags in Windows File Explorer if you have chosen to view "Title", "Artist" etc. I'm not familar with the Garmin MP3 player but it is possible it only shows ID3V1 or ID3V2 tags and yours are the opposite.

Not sure where you expect to see the tags in Windows Filer Explorer and I'm not familar with the Garmin MP3 player but it is possible it only shows ID3V1 or ID3V2 tags and yours are the opposite.

I am using Vista and it very misleading. You have to go into security to enable full control of files and because I selected multiple files I couldn't see the attributes, it can be done, one file at a time. Finally got it done. Thank you.

Tagmaster is not reliable.
