Has anyone got any advice on the insuring of THREE vehicles. All three will be driven privately by one person with no business connections or usage?

Car
Van
Sports Car??

Regards,
John

I've been asking for this for ages (not from this forum, I mean from insurers). I've only found it for bikes. The insurance companies I've spoken to in the past have said it is possbile, but for 7 cars or more.

Though there have recently been adverts on the telly for just such a policy...

Yes. Direct line.

They let you apply your NCD on one policy to other policies you take out with them. A claim on one policy wont affect the others! No-one else offers this facility yet.

I was in this position when I got my R129, nobody would give me no claims bonus on a third car straight away.

Best deal I could find was Direct Line, who gave a big discount for 'additional vehicles'. So ... I transferred the full NCB from the cheapest/smallest car onto the SL, then took the discount against that car (which now had zero NCB). After a year I transferred the SL to another company which was much cheaper than Direct Line. DL were fine for the other two, which are still there.

Ah I forgot this, they only introduced it very recently didn't they ... better than the discount scheme they had before (that I just mentioned)! Think I got a letter about it last week.

Classic car policies don't use the NCB scheme - as mentioned a 5 year old Mercedes would qualify.

I've had such policies from them for over a year now. They have only just started to tell people about it and advertise it though.

The really neat part is that after one year you can transfer the NCD to another named driver. So when the eldest gets to drive, I can immediately assign 60% NCD to her after one year of driving.:)

Darren at A Plan on 01635874646 did me a great deal on our three cars - its called family fleet.

Cheers

Saw a news article (apparently originally from AutoExpress) that said, "...in one in five of these multi-car household, one person pays for all the insurance - and that because of this "home fleet" insurance policies - ones that offer preferential rates for several cars - are becoming more common."

I'd never heard of "home fleet" insurance before.

The HonestJohn site carries an ad from Primo that offeres insurance for 1-6 cars: http://www.primoplc.com/personal.htm

Thanks Mozzer and Rozzer :) sorry Rory :) Thanks.

Just done my physio and feeling silly.

Silly didn't object either:o

I have just changed my insurance from Direct Line to MoreThan, I phoned them up for a quote for a second car (old Land Rover) and they were happy to use my NCB from my primary car, so were Direct Line. But as it turns out neither were happy to insure it because it has quite a few mods, namely a bigger engine.

Ended up going with a specialist that was cheaper anyway, £120 comprehensive, 6000 miles PA.

Be careful with Admiral - they don't insure options on Mercs....

Just spoken to my broker (A Plan) and they said they don't have any group / family type policies. They also said that even if they did (?) it would probably be cheaper to insure cars separately as different companies favour different risks in terms of drivers and cars.

I dunno. I suppose there's a logic to that - if the product isn't widely available then you'd have to be lucky to drop in to the 'favoured' risk band of cars/drivers+history for whoever is offering the group policy

I use Admiral for my SLK and Focus, wifey has company car and is insured to drive both, as can I (obviously!), my 20 year old son with two speeding tickets is the primary driver on the Focus, but cannot drive the SLK.

Admiral took into account the fact that I also drive my wifes car from time to time. Both my wife and I are insured to drive the SLK on a restricted business milage 3k (for emergencies). They are also one of the companies that do not require a trakker.

regards

David

PS. My SLK has factory fitted options only.
