Hi All,

I’ve just received a quote for half a dozen vehicles from the specialist broker, Primo.

The criteria is pretty simple, and of course will vary according to postcode and individual driving history, NCB, etc.

On the postcode note, I’ll mention that last year I moved the address of where I leave a vehicle overnight and the premium dropped by 30% - no, not Tripoli to Bexhill-on-Sea.

The basic principles are these:

Minimum four vehicles

Total value not exceeding 20K

No one vehicle to exceed 10K

No mileage restriction

Fully Comp

£500 Excess

I have seven years provable NCB, named driver my wife, no NCB so intro discount given. Both of us the wrong side of forty.

Premium inc tax, £1518

Not sure about EU cover, I’ll check.

On the subject of NCB, when I moved to a mix of company and classic policies almost three years ago, Norwich Union gave me proof of bonus and said it was good for four years. I was misinformed or the system has changed. The general rule now seems to be two years, however, Aviva will accept three years so I have to hop back on that particular bus before it leaves the depot in May to preserve my certificate of good behaviour else it will vapourise like one of Captain Kirk’s girls in the final scene.

I get the impression that if you had a third driver the minimum would be six cars.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for the mention. It's worth mentioning that the total vehicle value limit of £20,000 and single vehicle limit of £10,000 are appropriate to your circumstances, not set for everyone.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the clarification, can you advise if my guess of a third driver = six vehicles is correct?

Incidentally, my thanks also to Freda, very efficient!

Cheers,

Paul

Nope, at present minimum number of vehicles = 4 and drivers must be less than number of vehicles. However, the bigger the difference between number of drivers and number of vehicles = the greater the saving. In other words, additional drivers cost, but additional cars may not cost anything at all.

I'll pass your thanks on to Freda!

Best wishes,

I have three cars on an Admiral multicar policy. As I've only recently renewed it (march..) it's too late to try you for a quote, but I will at the next renewal!

Saying that, a masochistic side of me is curious to know if Primo would have saved me money THIS year.... :)

Edit: Is the four vehicles requirement cast in stone?

Sorry, four vehicle min at present.

@Primo,

I've just sent through details on your website where is wasn't obvious that you had a 4 vehicle minimum. It may be worth stipulating that. I only listed 3 of our vehicles, however we do currently have 7 in the household, although 1 of those is a company car so doesn't actually count and another is currently laid up awaiting restoration.

Regards,
Craig

has anyone got a multi policy that they are happy with?

I have 4x vintage cars laid up
2x vintage motor bikes laid up
1x vintage tractor laid up
1x campervan fully comp all bells and whistles
2x mercs fully comp all bells and whistles

2 drivers

I was wondering if a multi policy works out much cheaper and are there any downsides to going this way?

TIA

Whenever I have tried the multicar policy its usually been more expensive then individual policies. 6 cars of which 3 mercedes, 4 drivers with 2 under 25. Also for the 124 I need full year round EU cover which limits the options. I think the message is it depends.

I am pleased to tell you that we no longer have a 4 vehicle minimum + new arrangements mean that quotes are now generally available in minutes rather than the days it sometimes took in the past.

...but you still need to have more vehicles than drivers!
