Hi All :thumb:

Just bought my 1st Mercedes, always fancied having one. So on saturday I bought a 52 plate C220 CDi estate (needed to be estate)
Nice car lovely drive. Hopefully with these fora I`ll be able to keep it in tip top condition.

Cheers
Derek

Welcome to the forum.

My father had the same car and it proved very reliable for the 7-8 years he owned it.

Post some pics soon. :)

Hi Derek and welcome.
I bought my first ever MB 18 months ago, a 2001 (July) C270CDI elegance estate.
It's not been problem free - the MAF quit in the first month and was sorted under warranty, rust is beginning to appear in a couple of places and MB only offered 10% goodwill towards their cost of repair (£800!), we also had the traditional clunks from the front suspension caused by failure of the ARB and lower arm bushes, I've also had to replace front discs and pads, thermostat, the battery (search on here for instructions before you do that, it's not straightforward on a C!!) and all 4 tyres and need to change the ATF soon and she'll finally be due a service in early October (service interval 2 years or 15K miles whichever comes first).

The upside is that all that work cost not a lot of pennies (I used a local garage not MB) and the car is superb - quiet, comfortable, surprisingly quick yet the #2 trip meter is showing 3500 miles average 41.5mpg! My wife is really taken with the car and wants to keep it forever!

You've found a good forum with lots of info (use the search facility) and a bunch of helpful people. Enjoy the car and the company on here!

Does have little rust spot on top of door pillars.

need to fix indicator arm. doesnt "lock" when indicating right. & pipe come off reash wash wipe, so empties water bottle, if I park tail down the hill here.

Welcome to the club! There's been more than one of us had problems with the rear screenwash on W203 estates - as a search on here or "the other side Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums " will show. Hope your problem connection is one of the 3 easy ones and not the *********** up behind the glovebox that I've got problems with! At a guess, pull the offside rear cubbyhole and its plastic liner (1 screw) and look for the thin blue pipe, it sounds like the connection in there has come loose - 5 minute job! And, when there's a chance of freezing weather, make sure your screenwash fluid protects to minus a lot so it doesn't freeze!

Thanks for that info... I think it might be the fix you suggested. as it leaks from back of car.

Interesting!

My indicator arm is going the same way. It sometimes doesn't stick when turning right (about 50% of the time). I have assumed that the mechanism is getting worn (207,000 miles).

If you get it apart and get it fixed, please let us know - preferably with a how-to.

Welcome to the forum. I have the same car, it has been very reliable and cheap to run. I have had it since new, and can't find a good reason to replace it. I hope you as as happy with your car.

Welcome to the forum - and I have learned something today -- the plural of forum is fora......
