I thought I should put a post up of my most recent purchase, a 2005 C55 AMG Estate.
Since my UP GTI was relegated to weekend duties (after racking up 30k miles in two years for work and being replaced by a Skoda Enyaq), I fancied a toy with a V8 again, as it had been a while (previous V8's include an E39 540i sport and a 2002 CL500).
With the Merc V8s tending to be more reliable, but I not wanting to spend C63 money (and you hear of the horror stories), I really wanted something with an M113 engine. A CLK55 was top of the list, but they are few and far between, so when this popped up, it made sense, as it would be more practical for us as a family, including a 5-year-old!
I've seen this car a few times, but I went in to have another look, seeing as I now own its twin!
The car came on S55 rear wheels with wider tyres, but luckily also had the C55 wheels with it as it drove fairly badly. I re-fitted the correct wheels and had a new set of Goodyear Asymmetric 6's fitted, which improved things a lot. I also fitted a CLK grille (I didn't like the fully chrome slatted one on silver) and because these are a CLK from the wings forward, its a straight swap. I also had the resonator removed...
The car actually came with a secondary cat and resonator delete pipe, which was removed the day before I viewed the car, as a previous viewer was not keen on it. I think this setup would be too loud for me, but now the single resonator removal doesn't seem quite enough somehow.
I will probably end up fitting the full bypass pipe as a test, then possibly have the factory resonator fitted to it, leaving just the secondary cats deleted - I will see!
I "enjoy" doing the little fixes, so there will be more to come, including a probable suspension refresh at the rear and, no doubt, the front at a later date.

I also wanted to mention that I have started a "UK C55 AMG" register. I was initially interested in how many Estates there are vs Saloons (it turns out there are a few more estates!), but this then escalated with my trying to find as many C55s as I could!
I currently have 75 on the list - 40 Estates and 35 Saloons. 49 are UK cars, 22 Jap and 4 Unknown. "How Many Left" suggests there are 129 cars registered (which I assume includes the imports), so I have another 130 to find!
