Very nice. Sound clip would be great
There you are gents. This was back when she still had less than 100mi on the clock, so I was being fairly gentle. This is sub 3.5k revs. Exhaust system supposedly opens up as the run in goes on.
I've owned the car for 6 days now, and I've had about 4 people stop me and tell me it sounds good. Never had this type of reaction before. Not even in an SLS. Weird. Something about this car appears more approachable than a supercar, I suppose. People have come over in parking lots to have a chat about it, and I've had thumbs up from passer-bys and the like too. Pretty surprising, but does put a smile on my face that it puts a smile on others'!
In other news, I've taken it on it's first proper road trip today, up to Cannock from Exeter. About 500mi added to the clock. She's sat at 700mi, with 300 to go before I can give it a good thrashing ;-)
Road trip notes:
The car has a fair bit of road noise over
some road surfaces. Over others, it's near silent. Most of the M5 up to Birmingham was decently paved, hence the car was whispering along. 10mi radius around Exeter had some kind of road surface that exacerbated the road noise to very irritating levels. Wind noise is fairly present at a 85mph cruise, but not intrusive to the point of annoyance. Having the radio on or music going makes it imperceptible. This isn't a Rolls Royce, after all. The ride is supple, but firm. It does not crash over bumps, but seems pliant even in it's firmness. It flows very nicely in a cruise, I find. Tremendously well sorted when the road gets iffy and bumpy at 85mph, it controls it's weight very well. The car never felt unsettled. Always just felt... Slow? Like it could handle the same thing at twice the speed. Unsurprising, I suppose, but confidence inspiring.
Even more unsurprising, with the massive 612hp under the bonnet, the power on tap was... Intoxicating. Overtakes were almost too easy, with nary but a quick prod at the throttle to send it to triple digits with no effort whatsoever. The gearbox is well sorted too. Shifts
up in comfort were basically imperceptible. Shifts down, at low speeds, were iffy sometimes with a little bit of a lurch. They were a-okay 80-85% of the time though. The car shines when you're having a little poke at it, though. Everything tightens up almost immediately. It's uncanny. Can't wait to see what it's gonna be like when the run-in period is over and I can properly explore the dynamics of the thing.
The last note I'd like to make is that the 66L tank is just silly. This thing could've done with a proper 80-85L tank. It's my biggest complaint with this thing. I managed fuel economy of 21.6mpg over the 500 miles or so, which is fine for a cruise bouncing between 80-90mph. I had to fill the car up once before I left (half tank to full), and then again on the way back when the fuel dropped to about 1/3 of the tank left.
As I'm sure you can tell, I'm falling in love with this thing. It's Jekyll and Hyde nature is incredibly appealing to me, and it's incredible how the car can go from a very well sorted executive luxury cruiser to wanting to tear your face off with a prod of the right foot. It truly seems to me like the best of both worlds. It's a brute in a suit. An iron fist in a velvet glove. And I love it!
