My A45 AMG Drive/Review

Its also £15k cheaper and when tuned quicker than the A45, now if only I could convince SWMBO to drive a beemer :D

As much as I think the A45 is vastly overpriced, if you tuned both, the BMW gets nowhere near it.

He's a fellow Member of this Forum..... undercover

And a thoroughly good egg - some great and detailed meet ups are due to his efforts :thumb:.

ps, I couldn't buy a car with that stuck up/on media screen - very Saxo owners club - which has spread to the W205 now .

Once you spec them like for like there is only 4-5k between them e.g. The auto is £2k for a start. I test drove one and it was cracking but is not the same as the A45. Different kind of car.

Don't do it, get the M135i instead ;)

Test drove one and really wanted to like it as on paper is much better value but it is really fugly and it is obvious that some of the engine noise is coming from the speakers.

It will be interesting to see if this was a requested change.

It was a requested change I thought 2014 was time for change as its difficult going to GTG's saying I'm flanaia1 at least I now have a forum name we can all pronounce :D

I suspect like most people I didn't give my forum name much thought and tbh I didn't expect to be around as long as this :D flango has been my nickname since I was about 8 years old

Same way as the rest of the AMG cars I suspect all on cheap lease deals, which is great for the secondhand market :D

I hope so, I'm waiting patiently for the monthlies to drop. Spookily I was looking at the MB website for A45/CLA45 offers at the precise moment you started this thread!

This one for one:). Change in circumstances mean I don't need an estate car. Saloons are not practical and this fits the bill. Agreed it is expensive but it is a cracking car. It only looks tacky with the aero pack IMHO. Personally I think it looks great but that's me. Hoping to get one soon if I can sort the deal out.

I am #2.

Even though I don't have a company car, when I travel on business I must provide a car which complies with the same policy as if I had a company car, with minimum safety and environmental criteria - the A45 is great for this.

Without the carbon addenda and aero pack, and in new beige (silver), with the extended leather it's a fairly subtle looking car, so that's ideal for me :thumb:

I called into MB Birmingham today to see if they had a car for me to take a closer look at, but they hadn't. They didn't even want to talk to me! We sat in a CLA180 though and concluded it was a very nice and comfortable to sit.

Funny you should say that I have just switched my attention to the cla45 it looks far better value on paper just need to get my hands on one now which might be possible in Germany this week

I thought it looked better in Blue. Had the same experience with dealers. My first visit to my local dealer they said they had one at another site but would get it in. Booked me in for a test drive and then said 2 days later that they had sold it. 3 weeks later they still havent been able to find one and they are an AMG dealer. Next dealer had one on site which I test drove but they said they couldnt sell me it and didnt seem to want to do a deal at all. The third one was the best, just gave me the keys and said I could have it as long as I wanted. When I got back they gave me the highest valuation on my car so looking to do a deal now:thumb:

Is he the Phantom Flan Flinger

Can he dance, can he dance, can he do the Flandango :D

He may not be able to do the Flandango or Fling a Flan but he can drive a motor. I've been (mostly) behind him and he will leave anyone eating his dust on the twisty bits. With panache, style and safety.

My flan flinging and flandango aren't too shabby either:D

Thanks for the kind words :thumb:

Hi all new poster here!

Not sure why existing V8+ AMG owners are giving the A45 such a bad time.

As soon as I saw that MB are where doing a four wheel drive compact car for everyday use with north of 360bhp I placed a order!

I personally didn't get the A45 due to it being the cheapest way into the AMG brand. It was more about the unique package on offer. Please if anyone can find another car with as much power, four wheel drive and high end interior that isn't a RS3 (As the wife already has a A3 3.2 V6) and is in the campact class please let me know.

I get the V8 thing I really do as my other drive is a manual AMV8. So believe me I really do get the V8 thing.... :)

Being my first post I would prefer to make friends over enemies but do you think existing AMG owners are more angered with the fact that the brand is more accessible to a wider audience now and this is diluting the exclusiveness of the brand?

Or are you all worried about getting smoked by a lesser model?

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome; makes sense to me :D:D

It would be boring if everyone wanted the same car so I respect your decision to opt for an A45.

The AMG brand has been accessible to pretty much anyone since the bargain lease deals on the C63 started so I don't think the A45 is winding up people over that.

I have no doubt that on real roads, with real world conditions, the A45 is probably the fastest merc out there until we get the 4 matic E63.

For me AMG isn't about the last word in sporty or performance. It's about adding a little flavour/drama to already outstanding MB models.
Maybe i'm showing my age, but I much prefer the Q car of yesteryear, the wolf in sheep's clothing with a bored out V8 and a stock looking exterior.

It's why I dislike the M3 vs C63 debate. The M3 is proven to be the faster car on road or track, but the C63 is just much more of a laugh...
