My A45 AMG Drive/Review

...but do you think existing AMG owners are more angered with the fact that the brand is more accessible to a wider audience now...

I don't think price/exclusivity is a topic in today's world of credit. That aside, I bought my 2010 c63 four months ago for a lot less than a new A45.

I just give the A45 a 'hard time' because it's not RWD, doesn't have at least 6 cylinders and I like the M135i more.

Hey RWDpetrol, nice to meet you.

I bought my AMV8 for a lot less then the A45 as well. So that’s not really saying anything. As you can get better cars then a C63/A45/AMV8 for less money.

Not at all surprised you prefer the M135i :)

It would be boring if everyone wanted the same car so I respect your decision to opt for an A45.

The AMG brand has been accessible to pretty much anyone since the bargain lease deals on the C63 started so I don't think the A45 is winding up people over that.

I have no doubt that on real roads, with real world conditions, the A45 is probably the fastest merc out there until we get the 4 matic E63.

For me AMG isn't about the last word in sporty or performance. It's about adding a little flavour/drama to already outstanding MB models.
Maybe i'm showing my age, but I much prefer the Q car of yesteryear, the wolf in sheep's clothing with a bored out V8 and a stock looking exterior.

It's why I dislike the M3 vs C63 debate. The M3 is proven to be the faster
car on road or track, but the C63 is just much more of a laugh...
Hey V12!

Its not about all out performance for me as well. More about the drama like you say. However trust me the A45 has a bucket load of drama now that I have the aero kit fitted. Its now pretty much impossible to drive anywhere without the car forcing you to give it the beans.

As much as I also get where you are coming from with the sleeper thing. (My wife’s A3 pretty much falls into that category). I would say I find that people move over if you mentally draw a picture in their heads that what you are driving is faster than what they are driving.

I don't move over for Audis, period.

Was driving a 1.2 Polo rental once upon a time and the Audi driver tried to run me off the road because my driving was more progressive than his. I let him pass and he stopped, got out and held up all the traffic as I reversed further away to escape his abuse. Keep your doors locked and keep the Audi behind you.

I should stop commenting until I actually drive one...speculation is the disease of mankind.

Would be good to read a thorough write up of an owners perspective and living with it day to day.

V12, give me a shout sometime and I can pop over with our A45 (albeit with Stage 1 tune :-) ) then you can test it out!

That's very kind, will have to meet up in the CL55 and do a back to back chalk and cheese comparison.

Hi guys im new, and I had my first test drive in this today, I come from 6 years of New Subaru from the hatch to saloon, and now drive an E350.

The car I drove had 18s and standard exhaust and in my book, was just about right,
The sound was nice for me, popping and banging when changing was good.

I was that impressed I ordered one in Red with 19s in Black and harmon kardon, rest I left.

I keep seeing this argument of amg and V8 V12 but unfortunately its how the worlds going, the M3 has now dropped to a V6 we see the last of the C63s. I do honestly think youll see more and more decrease in engine size as the years tick by..

What got me about this pocket rocket after driving the new S3 and M135 is how it pulls like a train, its got oodles of traction.... I do agree I think the playschool type screen needs a rework but the rest is cool.

I know now there will be a lot of worried drivers about that by the looks of how this thing went, would have a hard time keeping up.

I didn't even know you could get the 0-60 below 4 but that's interesting at 3.6 seconds your nearing GTR world.

Anyway my 2 pennath its a nice car, a special car and one that would suit my wife also. I like it because its small fast sticks to the rd like Glue, I hate RWD crap, always tractioning doesn't move in the snow just pants. ive never driven a C63 but after doing the M135 and seeing the amount of issues that has in damp conditions I can only imagine that the traction light is something you see quote a lot, That being said they still sound awesome HEHE

ooo and by the way Leeds Merc has one in for demo, Ask for Kelvin hell sort you out, as I know demos are pretty rare in the UK, I think they have 4 in group

Once you spec them like for like there is only 4-5k between them e.g. The auto is £2k for a start. I test drove one and it was cracking but is not the same as the A45. Different kind of car.

I agree. lovely car but A45 wins that fight

I test drove them both within 2 weeks of each other. A45 just has the xfactor
