My C220 CDI Sport

Re MPG, I'm getting good results from my C250 manual. OBC hasn't been reset from new (16k miles) and is showing just over 60mpg over about 60:40 highway:town driving. Best I've recorded on a gently run was over 80. Regularly getting over 750 from a tankful.

That's really good mpg for a C250 :thumb:

Excuse me but 'JESUS H CHRIST!!@%@!!!'
How on earth are you doing that?
The best i have had on a tank brim to brim is about 48mpg, that was the second tank when it was still running in!
Averaging around 42-45mpg now and I'm fairly chuffed with that!

Very light right foot! I also get 42-45 and occasionally 48-50 on alonger gentler run.

Of course we all know that Obsidian Black is the only one to go for :thumb::D

I am posting some new photos of the car.
I have tinted the rear windows and changed the alloys. :bannana:

Thanks, I had to have them. They just look great.
Are you talking about the badge on the left side my boot?
It says RST, its my initials.

That's great mpg, I am hoping to get around the 50 mark on Thursday, hopefully nothing shall stop me this time.

I realised I get 42mpg running around town, doing small journeys. Now I need to see my long motorway journeys.

I had bought those quite a while ago, I keep taking them off my previous cars and sticking them on my next.

My dad knows a company who makes initials, they made me a set.
I'll find out the company and let you know.

I know I am going off subject, as most of you own C-Classes.

I was wondering if any of you have had a rattling noise, coming from the back seat area.
The rattling is coming from the left side of the back seat, it only starts rattling over 30mph and gets worser at higher speeds.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

oh no not the dreaded c class rattle! there have been quite a few threads on here if you search that have had owners with this problem - i haven't had this problem luckily but in those cases it has been coming from the dash and not the back seat

I went to see what could be causing the rattle a couple days back.
I have been looking at a few of the threads need to have another look, its getting very annoying, especially on the motorway.

It nice that someone else loves Magnetite Black on their car :).
What made you go for a petrol?
Sorry, haven't been here for a while hence my late response.

Thanks for your kind words about my car. It's an unusual colour combination (Magnetite black with Alpaca leather) but it's what I wanted. And being unusual also makes it special in my eyes.

I went for petrol because I hate diesels with a vengance! Yes I know they're far better now than even just a few years ago, but I'd still not want one. Many of my neighbours have newish diesels and they all rattle like a bag of nails when starting up; a sound that seriously offends my engineer's ears. Not so bad for the driver cosseted inside, but I'm different in that I think about others. Many a time I've been blasted with black smoke from diesels (usually commercial vehicles admitedly) and that puts me off too. I once had a nearly new diesel as a loan car whilst mine was in for a service - I had to keep the windows closed to cut down on the rattling noise and I couldn't see much behind me because of the black smoke.

Something else with diesels that may have improved is the smell of the fuel. Whenever I've had the misfortune to have to put diesel into a car I've been left with the smell on my hands until I've been able to wash them. And it seemed to permeate into the car for a few minutes too.

It's all a matter of what you get used to I know, but I much prefer the flatter torque band of a petrol engine. People talk about the kick they get from a diesel, but that's just an impression of speed that it's imparting, and only briefly. For me, the smooth, steady long-lived thrust through a much greater rev range is far more reassuring and satisfying. (My wife says much the same thing ;))

Finally fuel consumption. I'm now retired so don't have a daily commute that's burning up the miles, so I don't have to worry so much about mpg. Anyway, MPP would be a more appropriate comparison. Miles Per Pound would be closer between diesel and petrol because diesel fuel costs more. I can get close to 40mpg on a run with my C350 CGI, but I don't really care. I get far more pleasure from flicking on the Sport button and pressing that right pedal hard.

Hi

No worries about the late reply, I do understand were your coming from. My previous car was a petrol and I really did enjoy it. I use my car on long journeys on a daily bases, so I thought it would be more ideal to get myself a diesel. I enjoy the diesel but I got to admit I do miss the petrol roar :(.

I've never had an issue with black smoke or diesel all over my hands when filling up the tank.

I do find I get a better mpg running around in town as well as on my long journeys with the diesel.

I was actually trying to find myself a car with Alpaca grey interior, I had found one but it was a C250 CDI and was bit out my price range.
Then I found my car, I really love the colour. Its different but looks great on the C-Class :D
