Well, I joined looking for help in getting my dad's E class started again, but you seem a friendly lot, so I thought I'd share with you my meagre car history. I might hang around if you can deal with a peasant who rides a bicycle. Annoyingly I cannot find the decent pics, I shall endeavour to do so, but in the meantime...
Passed my driving test late, was too busy before, so my first car in my early twenties was this...
...1968 Triumph Herald 13/60, 1296 cc, 61 bhp when new. When everyone else was going around in all sorts of horrible Fords with nasty bodykits I wanted something a bit different.
Couple of years on the classic insurance and I had enough NCB to spring for this baby...
...1964 (I think, though maybe the engine was put in later, as I thought the 2 litre came in after '66?) Triumph Vitesse Straight Six, 2.0. Apparently had 95 bhp when it was new, but my first time out in I was thrashed by a Fiesta van, it did have a bodykit and alloys though, so who knows what the engine was.
Behind the Triumph is my dad's 1977 Jaguar 4.2 Coupe, sadly left to go to ruin for many years, though eventually saved by someone else and fully restored. He took it past to show my dad when it was finished, and although it's now red it still looks magnificent.
Finally in my pathetically small history,
1990 Golf Gti 8v. Loved this car but the engine went in a big way, I had just got a mortgage and couldn't afford to sort it. Sold for £500. Dad's current car hiding in the background there. That was seven years ago and I've not owned a car since!
My current mode of transport is (not my picture)...
At least it was for three weeks in August, then I broke my leg in two places skydiving!
I aspire to owning a Mercedes one day, at the moment I would love a CLS, you still don't see that many up here, and they make my legs go all wobbly! I might be in the market for a ten year old CLK in the summer, but I'm also tempted by an XJ of the same age. That old coupe of my dad's got me hooked on them.
So, thanks for all the warm welcomes so far, I hope you like the pics even though they are of poor quality. As I say, shall look for the decent ones later.
Ooh, I almost forgot, really poor pic of my dad's SE, the motor he ran between the Jag and the E Class.
