My CLS55 AMG

Tailpipes are crying out for a ruddy good polishing too.
Especially considering how nice you've made the rest of the car look.

:thumb:

lol

Mate, you're removing seats to hoover!

I'm sure you have the patience to polish!

:D

Haven't you removed your seats ever? They must be grimey!

STOP PRESS! Part of Rashes car isn't clean :D

Already thought of that, going to remove the rear bumper to get access to the entire pipes :)

Mate, I can assure you, I find ways to get to things without having to remove seats ;)

I want to see lots of pics of your tailpipes when you're done! ;)

Probably easier to drop the rear boxes off their hangers than to remove bumper.

Don't know what I'm doing when it comes to exhausts + don't have a ramp or anything. Knowing my luck I would snap the hangers or something...!

You could back the rear wheels onto wooden blocks or something to give you abit more room to move.
You should be able to wriggle under there with enough room to move.

You should be able to work the rubbers off.
They're pretty sturdy so it'll take abit of pulling around but you should be able to do it.

You might also want to use some lube (ooer!) to help get the rubbers off.

Once off, you may want to put something under the exhaust if it droops too low.
But it should hold under its own weight.

But in fairness, you should be able to get to all visible areas to clean and polish without taking the rubbers off.

Looks good Karl, nice work on it thus far. £1.37 profit from cleaning the car isn't a bad return! :D

I wouldn't get on my hands and knees to polish the diff either and a coat of paint really sets it off, never even knew the diff had or needed a heatsink seems a bit overboard.

Exhaust tips are a nightmare to clean but not impossible without messing about removing things. Just need decent metal polish, time and patience.

Thanks for the feedback!

Give your car a thrashing on a warm day, then look underneath. The heat ripple/haze coming off it is immense.

Karl doesn't have time or patience

Must have some to be thinking off removing the rear bumper cover to polish them, I couldn't be bothered with that carry on for something you barely see.

I've got some ramps here you can borrow or use here if that helps. Also, have some decent metal polish if you need it.

cheers, Steve

Still aiming for my 30mpg :D :D :D

Managed 28.6 last night (with aircon on).

Driving back home in busy, but steady traffic. - for the most part 65/70mph.

With such a high torque engine, I never notice the AC to make any difference to MPG. In fact, I have always achieved my best figures with AC on, but that is likely due to the conditions rather than the strain of running the AC.

The smaller 2.0 petrol engines do suffer from running the compressor, but the CDIs and large V8s have no such issues.

Just read through this, lovely car mate! That's not a bad mpg either! I managed to get 24.7 on my way home from picking the car up but I'm off t Essex from Middlesbrough next weekend so going to see what I can get!
I've also bought one of the meguirs headlight restoration kits, my lights look a little worse than yours but hopefully it'll sort them out a lot!

That's similar to what my E320 CDI estate looked like on the M6 yesterday.

Last weekend, over the first 70 miles I managed an average of 30.7 mpg! Had a blowout not long after and a nightmare sorti some new wheels out to get home so once I sorted them the mpg went down as I wanted to get home quicker lol.

I was sat at 60/70mph unless there was average speed cameras I was at 50mph to get that mpg though!

Not tried a DVD in mine yet Karl , did you put it in the nav thing in the boot or the comand front loader ?

Nav goes in the boot, ive only got the 2005/6 DVD so its quite out of date.

The DVD sounds great if you have the HK system, it should automatically switch off as soon as you start moving (the screen, not the auto) where as mine doesnt at any speed.
