My E350 CDI Sport Saloon Review

? are you saying the saloon doesnt have a foot rest on the left?
I thought all automatics had footrests?
do you have any pics?

There is a "lump" to rest your foot rest on, but it doesn't have the metal pad on like the other pedals and like I have seen on the LHD model.

Really!?? I am waiting for this myself. I thought I had been fobbed off after taking my car back and letting a mechanic drive with me in it showing him the delay in C auto mode.
Very very annoying as they told me the next update "may" fix it and to wait. Also to drive in Sport mode all the time, assuring me that it "didnt use any more fuel"!

My car is being done as we speak. I'm not holding out much hope though as to whether it will improve things. I just think the car are now poorly executed with all this BE nonsense.

Will be interested to hear how you find it after the update - the lag is driving me mad (pardon the pun). I drive all the time is Sport mode and still experience it it there. There have been times when it had been downright dangerous... I might try it with traction control off to see if that helps.

It doesn't seem to do it when the car is in HOLD mode which is odd.

Mine seems fine on HOLD.

Interested to know if the new update makes a difference.

Ah gotcha, yes the coupe is the same. You can buy what I think is a copy metal piece to put there but I am happy with nothing (came from a CLK that had nothing either and I dont want to put cheap jap pieces in my car).

Stumpy1 let us know how the update goes, I also noticed that it is fine when you use the HOLD function from setting off but that isnt always possible if you are moving very slowly at a junction.
It is a right pain, I vary town driving with sport or manual comfort now due to many "false starts"!

I have been looking at one of these myself and thank you for the honest feedback. Now just to convince her indoors we really need the 350 and not the 250.

mbenz76 - This is a very nice car and incredibly well spec'd - I like the options you've gone for and so wish I could have spec'd some of them on my C63 (especially Distronic Plus!)

Whilst waiting for my new car the dealer have lent me an E250 CDI - nothing like yours but I'm still impressed with how refined and smooth it is. It also doesn't hang about either considering it's just a 2.1 diesel so yours must move very well indeed! One feature I particularly like about the E is a gearbox feature in traffic; if you quickly press the brake pedal and it will hold the car still for you - i.e. you don't need to keep you foot on the brake and it won't creep. To get going again, just press the accelerator! A really useful feature in traffic and another one that I wish would feature on the C63!

Finally, your comments on the lights are very true - MB's intelligent lighting is simply the best I've seen and I particularly like the way the bulb wattage and height of the beam are both increased on the motorway - it lights up so far down the road without needing full beam!

A c320cdi I drove had this. I'd be suprised if it was not on the C63amg.

Mbenz76 another question if you dont mind. I am pretty close to placing an order for the 350CDi sport and am considering the distronic plus as an option. The dealer has told me that with this option the sport steering wheel will be replace with the 4 spoke version from the Avantgarde which is fine. What they are no clear about is if it will still come the the paddle gear changes on the wheel.

I know you have the Distronic do you still have the paddles ?

Thanks

Yes, paddles are still there.

I didn't realise the steering wheel changed with Distronic - don't fully understand why it would. So many of my options called for a change in wheel or seats that I lost track after a while :)

Have gone for a E350 CDI after lurking here for a while.

Was concerned about comments here regarding Avantgarde steering wheel and seats if you get lane/drivers package and anything other than black leather seats.

Been to loads of dealers and looked at and tried all the options.

As per mbenz76, the Avantgarde 4 spoke steering wheel has more places to comfortably rest your driving hand. The sports wheel is thicker and looks better but certainly fewer easy hand resting positions.

The sports seats are mildly firmer but has larger side bolsters. Have sat in both seats and in my mind the av.g seats are more comfortable for a longer drive. I find large side bolsters a bit on the uncomfortable side esp on a longer journey.

In the end my main issue was to get metallic/comand/leather/HK.

I was v keen on getting HK as cost was low and its much better to my ear than standard.

Local dealer happened to have a car with these in the showroom so made the deal. There are a few extra's I would not have paid for such as power boot/lane package/rev camera but in the end the deal was good and hands were shaken.

Looking forward to joining this and other mb forums.

Did the update work??
I called Mercedes today and asked about the update last week as I have been waiting for this since Feb 23rd when they told me it *might* be fixed in the next update and they come out every month.
Mercedes told me today that there wasnt a release and they will call me in May!???

Dunno, I don't have it back yet. Only been off the road for 2 months out of the last 3.5 !!:ban:

FWIW the GL350 BE does it too. I think MB have a situation here which one day will be directly responsible for an accident. The throttle delay is alarming and I am amazed that some egghead in Germany signed it off like this.
