Not everyone's thing as they drink like my late father!

I bought this from its 1st owner a few years ago. He was a consultant and had spend over £25000 on maintaing it over the years. Mechanically, it had been better cared for than any car you could ever wish for. Looks like he's now sorted the rot too.

I used it daily - I think I put around 10K miles on it without a thing going wrong, other than it needing an alternator and new rear exhaust section.

I didn't sell it to this seller, but he's really brought it back to life.

Worth a punt if you're after a classic. Mileage is genuine, and when I sold it the engine and box were perfect, so it will still be a minter.

I was tempted to renew the partnership until the wife saw me looking at it and told me the SEC had to go if I bought it!

Absolutely lovely car :)

I wonder if the seller fancies doing a swap with my old W202 C240 Elegance (shortly to go on eBay)?

He says that he has spent £7k on the car, does it make you feel sad to see it again

The opposite.

When I sold her she was starting to rust, but was mechanically lovely.

It's nice to see one of my old 'children' loved again so that it can be kept going.

He'll be the sad one when it only makes £3k/£4k! max That's why I considered (still am) buying back.

Put it this way:

I bought it for £1200, spent around £1000 on parts and servicing over 10000 miles' use, and I sold it for £1600! I won on that score.....:bannana:

These are quality cars from a time that building to cost wasn't an issue.

There's probably less than 20 SELs on the road today that match this one.

Something about that car that makes the old ticker miss a beat

I really like it and I will be watching the auction closely

If you want a good 116 then this is a good one.

I may sound like I'm in cahoots with this seller (never met him) but this one's a sweet example!

They are usually rubbish and falling to bits. When I bought this one it had water damage through front screen leaks and was misfiring. I sorted the screen and personally replaced all the carpets (it was smelly!). I changed the oil 4 times over my ownership and drove it on nice runs. The misfiring was just a case of plugs, cap and arm replacement.

It didn't even use any oil. I'm tempting myself now!

The stack of bills I passed on was rather chunky.

What were you expecting from a V8 30+ yr old engine (design) with a 3spd box that weighs lots?!!!!

They drink on similar terms to old Rolls Royces but are, at least, guaranteed to start and not give you electric hassles!

I always think the noise they make made up for the consumption.

PS if they are running badly, you can expect 5-8 mpg around town ;)

Brings back happy memories of my W116, I enjoyed driving that car. :)

I was tempted to renew the partnership until the wife saw me looking at it and told me the SEC had to go if I bought it!

So, what did you do to the wife? :D

I had one of the last one's made 1980 bought it in 85. It was Lapus blue with cream leather paid £10,000, kept it for six years. When you bought the SEL model all extras where included unlike today. A great car.

it looks lovely .. if I had the space, I would buy it. these are so rare now
