CL500 2002
I posted on here a year ago saying how happy I was with my 2000 Almandine black CL500. And, for almost exactly a year I had fairly trouble free motoring aside from the parking sensors failing and central locking intermittently failing.

The ABC light came on then went out, I ignored it as there were no visible problems. I then noticed it would sink at the back after two or three weeks. That becasme two or three days and then, recently, it stopped rising altogether. My local specialist said it was the pump thing at the back and was quoted 1500 to repair it. To be honest, it's not worth it. The car cost me 3750 and there's no guarantee the front thing might go tomorrow.

Such a pity.

I genuinely love the CL -I still love it's low sleek stance and the way it drives. What to replace it with??? I'm thinking an SL350 WITHOUT ABC!

Don't know who quoted you but obviously didn't gave you any options
You can get a pump like that for no more then 300 quid and to replace surely not 1200 quid
Think about it, can be fixed fairly cheaply

He said £1,000 for the device at the back - I forget what it's called - I dont think its the pump as that was replaced 2 years ago with new fluid and a flush etc.

Oki
Had few s classes, coupes etc and first time see a figure like that.
Maybe I was lucky?
Even had airmatic schock down and manages to replace for 200 quid with labour
If you really like it would get another opinion
I'm in West Sussex and using brilliant mechanic, cheap honest worked on mercs all his life - could recomend if you are around this area
Otherwise truly a shame, great cars
Good luck

I might be interested actually - wouldn't hurt. The car cannot be moved though as it's on the floor! I am in Walton on Thames. My mother lives in EG so I know W Sussex pretty well. IF you have his details I would be interested as right now Im driving a 94 Golf Cab which I had intended as a project!

The ABC is a tandem pump that serves as a power steering pump too. The price quoted to the OP by his local specialist is correct.

Really, I recently paid my local merc specialist £300 to replace my pump, flush/renew the abc fluid, and rodeo the car. You can recon the pump for £250 if you can do without the car for a couple of weeks, and send it to Germany....

That's £550 all in.

In regards to the OP question, I think he is talking about the rear Valve Block and not the ABC tandem pump on the engine.

The valve is most likely blocked and the pump is probably gone now too as it's not raising the car anymore. It could have been leaking fluid seeing how quick it started sagging... Could be a rear shock absorber too but hard to tell based on OP's description.

Give tony a ring, he is only round the corner from you.
