Ive got another suggestion for you.
The SL 320 suffers with excessive combustion noise in the exhaust manifolds when cold. It sounds like a rattle but is just normal for this model with this engine.
I've never seen an SL of this age with the common CAT problem. Don't rule it out though.

it actually sounds worse on the vid, its not that bad but because of the phone recording it emphasises it more i think, i wouldnt drive it if it was that noticable, would have it in garage to be repaired, but its so intermittent and sods law when i take to garage it dissapears

took to my mb tech, it is one of the cats, he says it is loose, bit not to bother replacing as its not that bad...
