Some of you may have read an earlier thread I started regarding putting destinations into the CD based Comand 2 unit.
I can now do that and get back to the 'NAVI destn entry' screen with a 'start guidance' option at the bottom. However, whether I press and release or press and hold this option, the unit returns to the main 'NAVI destn entry' screen and no longer shows the 'start guidance' option.
Can anyone who is still using the cd based Comand system tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I just need to start driving and the sat nav will catch up?
IS anyone still using this head unit? I'm not going to upgrade as I want to keep the car original (bit obsessive about that sort of thing!)
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Hi, Keep the comand for originality but buy a tom tom, much more accurate and just put it in when needed.

How many satellites does the system see and are you on a known road when you start off? does the map display show your true location?

Hi Alfie,
Thanks for your reply; was thinking of giving you a ring having read loads of similar threads going back 8 years or so.
Will look to see how many satellites the unit sees once I work out how to get it into diagnostic mode, I know I've seen a thread on here about how to do it! The map display is maybe 5-10 yards away from my true location, but have set current home location which it seemed quite happy to accept.

Have now had a look at the engineering/ diagnostic menu, the system is seeing 8 satellites, speed sensor is connected (recently had to have some work done involving complete removal of the dashboard & fascia so glad to see that's all connected & working properly).
I can input destinations but when I click on a stored destination nothing happens, similarly if I do get the 'start guidance' option & click it nothing happens. The mapping system's all working fine, and destinations show up on the map as a chequered flag.

Mine does this sometimes, It seems to be cold weather related.

The car was new to me this summer and I've never previously had/ used a navigation system.
I'm still not sure that I'm using the system correctly as the Comand manual isn't actually a great deal of help. At several points I'm directed to P199 of the owner's manual to select 'calculating a route' mode - how do I get to the 'NAVI Route mode' screen shown on this page?
Can someone who still uses Comand 2 please tell me in simple stage-by-stage instructions how to enter a destination and start navigating towards it? If it still doesn't work, at least I'll then know there's something amiss with the system.

Select NAV
Select Enter Destination
enter the name of the town
select Okay
enter the street
select ok
Select ok

Have a look on Youtube for a video showing it.

Alfie,
Thank you very much for posting these instructions

Select NAV
Select Enter Destination
enter the name of the town
select Okay
enter the street
select ok
Should the 'Start Guidance' option appear at this point?
Select ok
Does this second 'ok' go to the 'NAVI Route Mode' screen or should guidance just start?

Have a look on Youtube for a video showing it.

All the videos I've been able to find have been for the more modern DVD or HDD Comand systems, it's as if Comand 2 has disappeared :(
