NAVIGATION without Music - How?

I must be thick, because I cant work out how to turn the radio/music off without the pop-up display closing.

Obviously there must be a simple way involving entering the radio settings, but cant work it out.

Just to clarify:

If I have the radio on (no sat nav programmed) and I press the ON (OFF) button the screen folds away and turns off the music - however it does this if I am also in the middle of navigating, which is obviously an issue....because when I press the button on top of the hidden screen to open it up the music automatically comes on again!!

ARRRRRRR!!!

With an MB Comand system, the mute button will stop radio sound, but still allows navigation instructions to be heard. A foldaway screen doesn't sound like an original MB system though.

Some of them do have it. W204 for instance. Mute key has to the answer.

Its the w204 (c63) as David said - but I cant believe a mute button is the answer. If I have the HDD or a cd playing it will keep playing just on mute, which is annoying if you're listening to something that's an hour long for example.

I'm sure I could do it when I first got the car, but not sure what combination will bring it back

Are you sure about this? Normally Mute also pauses the audio source except the old iPod interface does not pause iPod (I believe the radio is not paused either :) ).

What does the manual say?

So in my 2008 C63 this is the way it works....

1. Screen pops up and Comand is On
2. As described you can have music on and navigation
3. If you press mute music is paused and navigation still provides directions
4. If you press On/Off button Comand is switched Off = no services (including BT telephone)
5. If you want Comand On with no screen there is a button on the Command lid, pressing it closes the screen but keeps Comand On, not much use if you want navigation, sometimes I use it to listen to music with no screen

The answer for your issue is mute button, it will pause the music if it is from the music register, or silence the radio.

Hope that helps!

Or simply turn the volume down. Navigation volume is independent of the audio source.

Or select video this will stop the audio source. Then select NAVI and you are back to navigation but without any music!

Didn't realise that mute paused the music from CD and register....should be a pause button really not a mute button then. Great that its sorted though - just didn't feel right pressing mute if it all continued to play.

Cheers guys

Agree, it feels weird, and I only found it by going through the manual. :D

And then there should be a separate button that mutes the radio or the microphone during a phone call? It would sound weird if you would have to press the "pause" button to silence the radio, navigation or the microphone.

I know what you're saying but I dont really need a mute button but I think you could leave the mute button on the steering wheel and add a pause button (and make it work as a play and pause button) on the audio panel. Also just add to the nav screen (command audio) !

Anyway - such a minor point and I gotta say my first MB is amazing even when compared to my old RRS or the Audi and Bm's Ive had. Give it 6 months and I will be planning my next MB move (I've never stuck with one maker). Just not controlling my mp3 is now my only agony.
