iirc, the rear lights are fed from the rear Sam and have the silly bulb swapping feature. Possibly the Sam gone u/s if not fuse or wiring as suggested.

I've founf that they're also very sensitive. Have you carefully checked the rating of the bulbs you've used? I put the facelift rear clusters on mine and they use a 21W / 4W bulb as opposed to 21W / 5W more typically found. Can't remember what type of bulb is used on a pre-facelift.
I've found that OSRAM bulbs or those from Merc seem to be less prone to error than the sort of bulb you may find in a Petrol station forecourt or Halfords. Try a known brand like OSRAM or Bosch.
Also have you tried moving the 'failed bulb' to the other side to see if the fault follows the bulb?
