Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Portsmouth. This will be just for a night - with young children in readiness for morning voyage via Brittany Ferries. Within 10 miles would be nice.

Cheers
Hugh

There's a Travelodge near the ferry port.

There is... and it seems to get the worst reviews of any hotel Ive ever read... now I wouldn't give a toss but I'm taking my 3 children all age under 6 and would rather somewhere maybe a little "safer" "nicer"...

I was hoping someone else had been in this situation and maybe found a decent one?

Hi
I have and my company use Holiday Inn Southsea on a quite regular basis, there is also the Marriot which apparently very good but never used it myself.

I lived in Southsea for 4 years.

Google "The Queens Hotel"

This hotel is on the seafront and is full of character.

I stayed in it about 18 months ago for two nights. It wasn't as bad as the reviewers have made out - at least not what I experienced. It was just a 'lodge in a not very pretty location.

More recently I've used the Holiday Inn Express at the Rose Bowl. It's been almost spotless every visit and has family rooms. But it's a bit further away than you're probably looking for - though not that far in time if the motorways are clear.

The ferry terminal is in a ****e part of town, better off looking for a hotel in Southsea which is the nice part of Portsmouth, there is a mini-funfair, a pier, mini-golf, sealife centre, d-day museum and a long seafront promenade. Watch out for the wanabee cockney's covered in tatoo's and gold ;)

Try the Tulip - near Port Solent. OK modern chain hotel with safe carpark, etc. It's only about 10 minutes to the ferry port.

It's now a Premier Inn ISTR - since about 18 months ago? (confusing because there is a smaller older Premier Inn right across the road from it).

If this is the one I used last year I'd also say it's OK.

Big place on the front, cocktail bar on the left as you walk in.

I reckon you'd get a deal there, I did.

Food was just OK, they appeared to think it was far better than I did.

Try the Premier Inn in Horndean.
Nice pubs nearby.
Quiet.
20 mins max to ferryport via A3M, A27, M275.

New Etap at the football ground. basic but would do the job!

Kate

You really don't want to stay anywhere near the football ground!! Fratton Park or nottarF kraP to most Southampton fans is in a really undesirable area!
