Mercedes C250D Elegence 1994 , given me 2 years of excellent service. Suddenly one morning it wont start and only starts when battery is nearly flat, needs good cranking for 5-10 mins, the engine tries to kick-in but fails to start (sounds like its not getting enough fuel). Sometimes the engine fires up first time as it would normally do, but shuts down after a few seconds.
I ve checked the battery and the glow plugs, they seem ok. While cranking a large quantity of bubbles are visiable in the plastic (see through) fuel pipes going into the diesel filter. Is that normal ?
Once started the car runs fine all day and starts first time every time. A friend of mine suggested a fuel leak, he thinks the air builds up in to the fuel lines over night resulting in an air lock. I replaced the diesel filter and have also checked for fuel leakage.
