So the 63 is full fat, the 43 is semi skimmed, what is the need for a 53 to slot in between?

I can understand the 43 and 63 going up against S and RS from Audi etc but why another in between them?

I suspect the 53 wont be far off the 63 either in real-world performance.

My guess is that Mercedes want a "halo" model in the hybrid lineup. If they gave it the same performance as the big V8 (which they could undoubtedly do) it would damage sales of the "proper" AMG car.
