Does any1 know how dealers get that new car scent even tho the car isn't new?! And the best product for achieving a leather scent?

For that new leather smell go for Gliptone. They even do under-seat air freshener pads.

That said you'll get many different recommendations as scent is a very subjective thing!

That new car smell is the result of compounds used in the making of your car offgassing.

There is quite a high level of toxicity in some of these compounds and the sooner that 'new car smell' fades the better it is for your health.

I was looking at new cars recently and I opened the tailgate of a brand new BMW tourer. The stink of volatile compounds was absolutely hideous, it actually made me feel a bit nauseous. I believe Hooper, the coachmaker, made a scent for Rolls Royce and Bentley when they switched from horsehair stuffed seats to foam to give the car a more original smell. No idea if it's still made.

I've read that it gives an old leather smell like the old leather seats from the 80s eg and not like more modern leathers you find in new cars?!
What about chemical guys spray for a leather scent?

I've tried both gliptone leather cleaner& conditioner but it gives off a dettol anti septic kind of smell! Lol

Chemical guys stripper scent is by far the nicest air freshener but lasts days not more :(

A.P.E do some really nice air freshners including most aftershave/perfume smells, I have the one million man and the Abercrombie store scent

Sorry it doesn't help with the new smell scent...

Not the stripper scent the leather scent,, read that it's one of the best and u only need to use a little at a time..

By new leather I meant the leather is new, not modern ;)

I find it smells like the Aston Martins of the '80s I had the pleasure of riding in straight out of the factory..

LOL I did say it's very subjective! :D

Try this Leather Care Balm - Products - Autoglym I use this in my AMG & it's still smelling like new . It's got natural oils so when you open the bottle you can tell its like fresh new leather
Will try this if the gliptone aroma pad is not of my liking..

Kam09, can't help you with the new car smell, although I'd like mine to smell new for a little while longer, but I used to buy a leather smelling air freshener online, I think it was called Liquid Leather - they come in different sizes so you can dangle one from a coat hook or mirror in the car or buy larger ones to hide under the seats - they were quite effective from memory.

Liquid Leather is Gliptone!

Google 'Dakota Car ODOR BOMB'.

It's an American brand that makes car fresheners including air con sanitizers in a range of scents including 'neutral' (interesting one) and... 'New car scent'.

Oddly, Dakota have a fan base of car owners around the world who quite ilogically would use nothing else. A bit like Saab drivers then...

They are available in the UK from eBay and Amazon.

Lol Dakota seems a bit too extreme! I'm going to try the gliptone liquid leather aroma pad hopefully will do the trick!
