Mods feel free to move to correct place.

Hi all been on here for a bit now and have just had spare few mins to upload pics.

This is my 1st Mercedes, come from BMW and the feel in quality and smoothness is far superior to the BMW (and the BMW is pretty decent compared to other cars)

I always said id never buy a new car but this deal was to good to say no to, as i was looking at a slightly older model to start off with. Registered 28th of Feb i got a good deal before the reg changed.

Then before it got dirty i managed to snap a few better pics. (for wallpapers etc)

Just the fact that you haven't gone for the lowest profile tyre option on the MB against the runflats on a BMW gives the MB a decent head start on the refinement and smoothness front - ahead of any suspension or drivetrain differences.

I came from BMW too, and am really surprised at how much of a step up there is in quality from the BM to the Merc. Have you noticed the door closing yet? It's not rubber all the way around the door frame, it's a fabric cushion. Have you noticed the door trims, they have a material covering, even in the pockets. There are many fine touches like that.

As you said, the smoothness is something else compared to a BMW (318).

As above, the ride comfort is superb compared to those bone shattering run flats on the BM.

Carrsey- Thank you, and yes it was. Had it for just over a month now and sad it has 1000 miles on the clock now!

Dryce- Yes i didnt even want to go down that route, one of the first things i done with my bmw was get rid of the run-flats when i had it.

As you said, I was very surprised the difference in quality as have always thought of the 2 brands very similar.

I noticed all the fine touches you mentioned almost immediatley and i come from a 07 3series coupe, so a pretty new car anyway.

Hi and Welcome to Mercedes ownership! I hope you are enjoying your car with that "new car" smell!!

Having gone in the other direction I'd concur BMW are not as good at the finer details as MB. They can be better with the overall design and the underlying structure and drive train can be very good - but they then spoil it with a cheap detail here or poor tactile choice of materials there. Last time I was in a basic 3 it definitely felt basic in terms of materials and finish.

However all is not perfect at MB - we had a thread some months back where member @Mark had a problem with a rattle in his C. MB failed to resolve this issue and it was his dealer who decently stepped up to resolve the situation. However the end result is that the C returned and MB lost the customer to Audi.

Get in a new 3 series it's a fantastic interior in my opinion and the 'bone shattering ride' is no longer an issue.

Still think they look bland from the outside though, but the new 4 series is stunning.

That's the problem I had when deciding between the two in October. The cockpit of the BMW was far more enticing than the MB however the body style of the new 3 series did nothing for me, whereas the c-class really had me impatient to get one. That's down to personal taste though.

Having said that now I've had the c class for a few months the interior has grown on me and I have no regrets.

+1

I'm also converting from BMW to Merc.
The 318d company car is off next month to be replaced by the facelift E Class.
The 335i I tuned and modified to be a budget E92 M3 beater, which it was, but it's also now moved on.

But it has to be said that the new F30 is leaps and bounds better than the E90.
But it is seriously over priced.
Look - a good spec will run you to about £32k at least. A little more an you are into five series money which is daft (about 2k more actually)
The appeal is still (just) there for a company car driver, but if buying personally, the Benz is a better proposition.
After all, most 3'ers sit on the motorway all day - so the 'drivers car' moniker is largely redundant.
I run a RS250 for fun - that's a fun car to drive at any time.
But mile munching?
The E class is a nicer place to do it than either.

I looked at other bmw's and the newer models are a lot better than previous. I did umm and err about the new F30 model of 3's the interior went the right way but the exterior was too samey over the different classes. I also feel that the new Mb's seem to have a lot more presence on the road.
