Anybody had worn out front discs at less than 16,300 miles??

Replaced at A service, kindly paid for by mr leaseco.

Call me a cynic, but a lease car, first service, I am surprised they did not replace all 4 discs, tyres and engine rebuild. Disc replacement is a sure fire way to improve revenue for the dealers, who checks the worn discs? I am having my discs replaced tomorrow, front only, first time in 60k since I have had the car.

my friend had an A class 1.4 which needed disks at about 14000 miles

Stop start auto drivng with a torquey car, I can believe it.

Certainly a record of some sort.

But they are now a wear item and are not that expensive although the fitting is if done by a dealer. I also read that 90% of all the mass market brake disks are now made in China and rebranded.

Why does that not surprise me?

I'm not sure whether that makes me feel better or not!! I've just had new front discs on my 2003 A140 during a service B at 38,000 miles. My complaint to MB customer service about them needing replacing so soon got me nowhere; but are MB really claiming that brake discs (pads I can understand) need replacing every 2-3 years!!

In nearly 30 years of driving and owning cars, the only time I have had to replace discs was on a 7 yeard old 106,000 mile Saab 900!! IMHO I think the A Class braking set up of small, solid front discs and rear drums is partly responsible...even entry level cars from the far east come with discs all round these days, and many of them vented at the front.

If I'd had the presence of mind at the time, I would have made enquiries into upgrading to vented front discs. Ho hum, hindsight is such a gift.

My father's ML at 10,000.
My 210 at 15,000

The joys of very bendy roads!! At least the discs are cheap. Even cheaper than the pads IIRC.

Sad fact is that the composition of brake discs has changed over the years to compensate for removal of asbestos compounds and the wear rate has increased.

Think a lot does depend on your driving conditions and style. My car had done 18k miles and needed new pads at service. Mostly on motorways, A roads & semi-rural roads and a couple of entertaining excursions to the Alps did not help much but the discs were OK.

To prevent being told things like "lipped, need new ones" I measured the fronts with a micrometer. Nominal 28mm thickness, minimum spec 25.4mm. Mine were (I think) 27.4mm. So if that remains constant I could get 78k miles out of them in theory.

Would suggest that anyone who is told they need new discs asks for the nominal, minimum and actual figures before agreeing

'k thanks all

Having has 20 years of company cars with repairs paid for lease companies I would be *astonished* if they paid for new disks at this stage. My last company car, a Peugeot 406, used to eat disks and the lease company would rarely pay - Peugeot picked up the bill most times. Likewise if tyres lasted less than 30K miles, we got recharged for the excess wear.
My company just used to pay these charges without telling me - I only found out when I got promoted and starting seeing my divisions management accounts.
Leasing companies also don't pay the same prices that private motorists do,

By the way, the disks on my 22500 mile C270 look almost unworn!
