Hi all,

Just a small question today

I think I need to get some new disks on the front of my car, well at least on the fronts and possibly the back.

My question is, do I have to replace the pads at the same time as both front and rear pads are fairly recent, with nearly all the braking compound still on them.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is best to change disks and pads at the same time that way you get the 2 perfect surfaces of the pads and discs contacting at the same time which will maximise the new disc life.

If you do not want to change the pads you need to make sure the surface of the pads is perfectly flat, which you can do on a grinding stone by hand (not the rotating type but the block) Used to do this with my race car and never had any issues

But for the sake of the cost of the pads I would replace both :thumb:

Flana summed it up.

Pads are the cheaper (and easier to fit) so most people would change them while they are doing the job.

If your confident they are new, then yiu can re-use them howevet as mentioned they would of paired to tje discs and will have to bed in to the new ones.

Why were new pads fitted to worn discs last time?

Therer is a minium thickness for the discs normally stamped on the hub of the disc.

When I fitted the new pads, I checked the discs at the time and there was only a very slight ridge starting to appear, but it seems the pads I am using have eaten the discs!

Thanks for the advice! :thumb:

On another note Olly, I really need to get my gearbox oil and filter changed and flushed along with the torque converter as it seems only you do!! Also, the pilot bush is weeping slightly.
So I need to arrange to do this with you, and book a day off work as I very much doubt you work on sundays?

Give me a call when you are ready.

We find the budget pads tend to be very hard hence the disc wear.
