New E-class looks like Lexus?

Drove my new C class on the M42 this morning and was startled how much it DIDN'T look like the 5 series beamer overtaking me!

There is a look from the side...

The W204 C class has a minor resemblance to the E39 5 series (i.e. the nice looking one before bangle made it ugly i.e. the current E60 model).

The e39 was introduced in 1997, and still looks good today, its one great car design IMO and time has been kind on it, like it will be on the new C class. It won't be kind on the current shape 5 series.

I love the mixed AMG wheels, drinking-straw exhausts and comedy tail lamps on the test cars, there's something so "Mad Max" about them

True but it does have porthole rear side windows, and that's something I've not seen on a custom car in a long time! Let's see if Lexus will be so bold with their styling!

I can see the shape of the dash structure thru the windscreen, expect an S class style system where the speedo cover extends towards over to the middle of the dash....meaniing they're will be a whopping screen in the dash.

Perhaps with the small round windows they expect to make it amphibious, it would be the 1st (on a mass produced car).

Maybe Bond could have a Merc then (nicely off thread now)

The E39 saloon was introduced in Germany Nov 95.

Although they are all nice looking cars ...the C class.... in my opinion ....wins hands down.......

I don't believe Lexus and MB design the look of their cars. They probably outsource it to a third party. My guess is MB used this design company. Lexus like the look of it and found out this company and told them could you do mine too please? That why the similiarity. The head and rear lights are again out of their control similar to the wheels and tyres. They just buy them from Lucas or whatever. Look at the change over in 2004 for the SLK glass unique headlight to plastic you find it in all cars even an Almera and the new C-class. To confirm this we need one of MBUK member who works in the company to tell us all.

The new E looks like a cross between a C-class and an S-class! Who would have thought, eh??
