Hi folks :)

After having the new exhaust fitted to the S, I seem to be leaving a trail of water behind from the exhaust from cold start. And no, the head gasket is fine, the water level has never dropped at all and the engine runs lovely and strong.

Is it normal for a new exhaust system to build up so much condensation and then deposit it all out the next day?

Thanks,

Stu

I have been having a think about this.

Maybe the carbon buildup in the original system soaked up the moisture. The clean insides of the new system condensate much more and allow it to pool in the boxes.

Yes hot gas cold pipe condensation . Rag it to make her normal again :-)

Perfectly normal I would say. I've had the same when having new exhausts fitted in the past. It's probably more noticeable because there are no sooty deposits inside the system yet, which would absorb a lot of the moisture and burn it off slowly. Water makes up 12% of the waste gases/vapours from petrol engines and 11% from diesel engines.

I have a 3.5 V6 petrol Mitsubishi Pajero. It steams in a manner that has train spotters messing their pants. Loses no fluids and does not overheat. Head gasket tests are all fine. Always stops steaming after about a 20 minute run. Just the train spotters that worry me now.

Just drive it normally, especially as the temp has dropped the last week or two there will be moisture and vapour coming from that exhaust system :)

Probably condensation forming inside the exhaust overnight - if you think about it, shiny metal on the inside will cause condensation whereas a nice film of carbon will insulate.

this is absolutely normal on new exhausts for the reasons the majority have stated
