Hi, I have just bought a C180se coupe for my wife. I know it isn't every ones choice, but it is the one she has always liked. I have been looking for a while, and wanted to surprise her. I saw one I really liked. It looked perfect, the body work is absolutely stunning, considering it is 2003 model. I saw a few models similar to this one, and wanted to compare them to this one before I bought it. I joined this forum before I completed the sale, and done my homework. I noticed that the door speaker grills were broken. The dealer told me you couldn't get them, as the came complete with the door cards. This forum soon put him right. I told him it was a fairly common fault, and how much they cost. So they were replaced, thanks to MbClub. As I said, this was going to be a surprise for her. I arranged to have a private reg. no. transferred, and got all the relevant paper work sorted, insurance etc. And all behind her back, without her knowing. My mind was so preoccupied with being sneaky, that I , and believe me I am embarrassed to tell you this, I forgot to ask about the service history. I know, it is a cardinal sin, and I feel soooo stupid. When the day came to trade her old car in, and pick up the merc, I was watching my two year old, and after handing over the documents and money to the dealer, I went out to take the child seat out the old car, and put it into the merc. When I had done that, I turned around an there was the garage owner. He gave me the new mot certificate, and told me the log book was in the post, with the new details. Fair enough. I drove away thinking the handbook, and service history was in the glove box. Once I was home, I realised they were not there. I went back later, only to be told that there was no handbook or service history, and that the main dealers must have helped themselves to it when the sent it to auction.(Why would they do that?)It doesn't even have a spare key!! I am worried that I have been done. I think that the mileage might be correct. There is no tell tale signs of long mileage wear an tear, you would usually find on gear stick, pedals or even stone chips on the bonnet.Even the spare wheel looks as though it has never been used. I have seen a few complete handbooks with wallet on e-bay for about £ 25. I will keep my eye open for that. But I am really worried about the service book missing. How hard is it going to be selling it in the future. My problem is I am too honest not to tell a prospective buyer. I am afraid I am a first class idiot!
