2000 ML270CDI Manual
Greetings All, I am a new to this forum and Mercedes ownership...

I have a Range Rover TD6, which has been a eye opener... But as I tow for a living and the Range Rover is eating gearboxes, I have decided to try something different... a ML270CDI Manual..... So far I have found that it pulls like a train :D and is almost as temperamental as a Range Rover

So far I have suffered a dash full of orange lights.... caused by rain... think it's an ABS sensor issue, the cruise control is intermittent (probably water again) and the door locks have not only started to 'machine gun', the drivers door has also broken the spring, refuses to lock and the button pushes against you when you try to lock it manually:(

I have been a member of a Range Rover forum for a few years and have not only found it to be very helpful, but also rewarding to help others too. So far I haven't been able to tow with the car as I don't have a tow hitch... although I do have the Mercedes tow hitch receiver and the 13 pin wiring... but no hitch

Early days.... I can see me sticking with a Mercedes, if it performs half as well as I think it will.... First I can do is to the door to lock :thumb:

Welcome to the forum. As for the fault you have ,it may be water thats got in to your computer I dont know its location .On the saloon its in the boot Someone will help you more than i can so please keep looking in .

What year is your ML?

Once you get the first few problems sorted you'll have a great tow car.

The ML is a 2000, so it's fairly early, and it's done 194K  But the engine and box have only done 92K:rolleyes: So while the drive train is in good order the rest of the car is suffering a bit.... like the door lock on the drivers door... and the ABS fault, which was non existent to day as it was dry, and 18 deg. C  I thought this was England, we're not used to sunshine :)

So as far as the ABS goes I will draw on my vast knowledge of fixing Range Rovers, which are aquaphobic, if you didn't know:eek:,and assume that it's a rotten connection or cracked sensor, could even be a chaffed wire (s)

Welcome to the forum. ;)

I have a couple of ml270s that I use for towing they are great for that I have bought a chip tuning box that helps torque even more.
the door lock is a pain I ended up buying a second hand latch and replacing it took me 1 hour but a long Allen key is needed
As for abs it could be a few things but my guess would be your brake light switch as that also causes the cruise control to stop.

I would invest in a mb specific odb 11 reader
Invaluable really
Also I would consider a egr delete and a swirl flap delete easy enough to do
Just google it

Well things are getting better  the tailgate has stopped falling on my head  with the addition of 2 new gas struts at the exorbitant sum of £13.25 the pair :D, but I've now got to learn to jump out of the way as it don't half come up quick

The ABS / Cruise fault hasn't reoccurred yet, but it's been dryer than when I got it..... I'll sort it one day soon..

And I've had a result from fleabay, copped hold of an Oris towball for £95 :D That's a lot cheaper than a new one and considerably quicker to fit, as the car had it all factory / dealer fit but was missing the removable link between car and trailer.

Today I did the door lock , and it now works :bannana:
But what looked like a fairly simple job turned out to be a bit of a nightmare...
The door panel came off no problem, and then the fun started.... do you think that I could stick the Allen key in the hole and find the bolt :wallbash: after half an hour and a borescope I finally found the mark :D, the rest of the lock removal went without a hitch..... and then we got to the spring changing :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: that wasn't devised by a sane man.. unless it was for torture:doh:

Reassembly was fine, but I think that I should have gone and got the lazy tongs out of the shed.... those 5mm rivets are a b'stard with a normal rivet gun, or maybe it's because I skipped the Wheatabix this morning
