New mot regs - do you need to panic?

Re warning lights. i read that the warning lights have to illuminate with the ignition switched on and extinguish when the car engine is started - so taking the bulb out is not going to be an option. I suspect that testers won't appreciate being taken for a mug, either.

You could just swap the oil warning light for the airbag light or wire it up in series off the oil warning light.

Low screenwash light FTW ;)

"Car's passed it's MOT mate but you need to top up the screenwash" :D

How far back do you have to go to find a car with wires behind the dash. Even my mid-eighties Golf had a PCB behind the dash. It is going to take some effort to fake a warning light in modern cars

And aren't warning lights there for a reason?

I know that Mercedes are infamous for the odd electrical glitch, but why wouldn't these lights be sorted?

airbag light for example - if you no longer have an OEM steering wheel with airbag
ABS light - if you've disconnected the ABS module

^ admittedly not something many people should or would be doing, but it does happen for various reasons. The link in the 1st post mostly covers why.

Your options are to swap the actual lamps in the instrument cluster or swap the wires from the sensors to the PCB ;)

I have a check engine lamp permanently lit due to a dodgy wire from the CPS, car still works fine but would be a fail under the new MOT regs - due for repair next week and MOT is in June. If it can't be easily sorted then I think my screenwash reservoir might be a bit low during the test...

Rewiring the lamps is a fools folly as the tester knows the sequence for the lights and will watch for it.

Feel free though...
