New owner woes

BTW, battery issues WTF ?? you can buy a no name battery from Halfords that comes with a 4 year guarantee for £70. If this piece of 16 month old scrap can not keep its original MB supplied battery charged what hope for it's future. Stop making excuses. what is happening to the OP is totally unacceptable.

OP get shot of this car now. Sale of goods act , now called 'Consumer rights act 2015' is the hammer you have to batter this dealer into submission. a friend of mine used it to reject a brand new £14K motorcycle. He got all of his money back.

If you took out a loan or used a credit card for any part of the purchase , even better.
Thanks, I think if the problems aren't resolved after this latest time with them then I will have to explore my rights.

:D

Not the first "new member" to ask for advice and not have the decency to update a thread, and unlikely to be the last.
Really sorry about that, got no notifications and genuinely thought I had only received an initial reply. Know to check the watched threads now, bit of a newbie to forums in general.

Never ceases to amaze me at the sh1t level of service people are prepared to tolerate . The dealer can easily afford to replace a battery at "his" cost if not covered by MB. After all the hassle you have had at the very least they should be delivering a courtesy car to your door and collecting yours, rectifying it and then returning it. Appalling treatment , would be asking for money back if I were you. Equally worrying is the level of issues appearing on new/nearly new Mercs .

Latest update, they tell me they've done a software update that should make start stop operate more. I took the courtesy car back this morning and stop start on that operated after less than a minute of driving. Got mine and drove it to the station, 17 minutes in varying traffic, every time i stopped the Amber stop start symbol comes up and the engine keeps running. Not happy. Emailed them and they said 'You can't compare a c.class diesel with an amg'. So I think now I will document everything as someone suggested and ask for a refund unless it is sorted. As much as stop start irritates sometimes, overall I like it to work when I'm in a queue.

Well Stuart you have had a tough time of it with that garage and your car, think Petrol Pete and others are right it is time to press go button on that car ,return it as faulty and ask for your money back,I have never had to do this, but we have posters who have and I am sure they will help with the exact way to go about this.

Thanks, i think perhaps i need to get some legal help as I'm not expecting them to take me seriously.

Just found the consumption/ charge meter display and it is significantly more difficult to get it to go in the green zone than with the c class I was loaned. You seem to have to accelerate over 30 then take your foot off and slow down after which it stays in the green until it goes under 20 or so. The c class just went into the green all the time at low speeds too. Is this normal for an e43? Would love to know. Thanks

Ps tried putting it in E mode to see if charging improved and then it went into gliding mode, a little sail replacing the E. Kind of cool, I'm imagining it isn't charging the battery then however, but putting it in neutral and coasting.

Ordered a charger on the advice of singe others on the forum. If nothing else it will help me diagnose what's going on and ensure the battery is fully charged when I want it to be. Bit of a duff thing to have to do with a nearly new car but an opportunity to tinker.

Sorry to hear about your woes.

MB Darftord! I'm not surprised.

All this could be down to a faulty battery.
They could at least try another battery from one of their fleet.

I had some electrical problems many years ago (W204) took a while but was narrowed down to a faulty rear SAM which would not let the car power down fully thereby draining the battery. I had a similar alarm problem as you described.

Have you involved Mercedes Customer Assisantce centre? I find they have a lot of influence.
I hope you find a resolution soon.

Thanks, I telephoned customer services a couple of times to see what they'd say in particular when I wasn't being offered a loan car and where I stood on rejecting the car. They did say they could get in touch with them and find out what the plan of action was but that was all. I didn't take them up on it as MB Dartford have continued to be willing to take the car back each time and try to resolve things. Whilst I'm overall quite frustrated I find it hard to know who to blame! It is booked in again in a couple of weeks and I hope this time they will resolve it. I bought a charger to see what effect that would have and start stop works for one short journey after charging. I am going to write up the timeline of events and send it to the sales manager saying I think that the car will be rejected if start stop doesn't operate after this next visit on the grounds that I've had continuous minor issues from day 1. Loathed to reject it though over start stop if that's all that's wrong with it now but also worried that could be masking a more serious issue and I haven't seen anyone else on here saying start stop doesn't work on the new e class (or just amg works differently as the dealership have implied).

Oh ok I'll give that a go thanks.

Rang customer services and asked them for an amg specific email, and even that bounced. I have now emailed the regular customer services email and and then you forward it. Thanks again.

So when bringing forward the appointment for looking at the stop start the service manager said that stop start will only operate a maximum of five times in a journey. This made me laugh... a lot. After I stopped laughing and questioned as to what car it is that has that feature, I pointed out it is irrelevant because mine never activates. Any pointers as to what to put in a letter saying I reject the car if this is not fixed anyone? It's not within 30 days but clearly is not without minor faults and not of sufficient quality. Thanks
