New owner woes

From what i understand it monitors the health of the batteries. I had no warnings that there was an issue with either of my batteries, this was due to the sensor failure. Once at PCS they plugged the car into a Star, which highlighted the faults

On my W204, if I leave the Stop/Start turned on while driving around town, it's green around 2/3 of the time. In short it's more green than yellow.

I don't care much about Stop/Start, but I like the fact that it tells me that my battery if fine ;)

Another interesting point is that there's no newer software available for the Stop/Start feature on my car, i.e. the latest version available for my W204 is the original version that it left the factory with in 2013. So it seems that the W204 Stop/Start system was a success.

Nice! I think mercedes have possibly got a general issue with the latest models. All the electronics stay on when the car is off and any problems drain and damage the battery. Plus they are using their own batteries. The one installed is 80AH. No other specs seem to be available but 80 doesn't seem that much. The systems are complicated, I am very technical(if I do say so myself), I'm a software engineer, but the thing is activating seemingly randomly and when presented to the dealership they seem to see no problems with the diagnostics they have available. Pretty much every time mine has gone in there's been some software update. When I said why isn't it just all updated he said 'there are around 250 control systems and the update you just has was stopped to take an hour so we just do updates where there is a concern'. I'm sceptical of course...

You have an amazing amount of patience with a clearly crap dealer... I'd be reporting them as even though they've kinda helped you I'd expect far better service from a Mercedes dealer despite what model you have... the indies on this forum are far better than any dealer IMO....

Yes, but the issue here is that the car is still under warranty?

I'd take the car to MB Brooklands... had very good experience with them in the past.

After the warranty runs out.... Terry at WG or Olly at PCS.

Thanks. AMG customer service (Netherlands) have come back to me and given me a goodwill discount on my first service or consumables so that's pretty nice. They also said to get in touch if I have further issues.

Just had to go out and see what mine was like, been away from the E63 for 6 days now, trip away and S2000 weather...…
:);)

Offered up stop start (ECO active) in about 50 metres and was available all the time I wasn't in AMG mode :D

Glad to help. I hope find closure soon.
These little niggles spoil the joys of owning such a fine machine.

Thanks for this suggestion as they've now given me a £250 voucher off my next service or consumables.

I can confirm that I now have start stop working consistently despite quite a few short journeys. It works exactly as you'd expect it to and is not difficult to achieve basically activating after the car is warm and the ac is not blasting to get to the right temperature. Annoying that the dealership would have me believe it was normal before. The new battery took a day to charge using the ctek despite the dealership saying it was charged. After all the things the dealership have said to me that i have found to be subsequently untrue I will not be going back there for servicing. Can anyone recommend a dealership within easy access of Dartford? Someone recommended Brooklands but that is a little far, maybe I could go there at a push.... Thanks

Can't help with a garage but you made me think about my stop/start, which seems pretty random. Sometimes it works almost straight away even when the engine is cold, and sometimes it goes orange and doesn't work even with no electrics turned on and having been driven for a while. Feels like a random time period it chooses to operate.

That sounds exactly like how mine was when they put a new battery in there but hadn't charged it. I drove it home for twenty minutes and it didn't activate. Next morning activated straight away. Might be worth charging it if you have a charger as it might be on quite a low charge that needs a top up from the motor before activating every other journey. What does mercedes me say about your starter motor if you have mercedes me? Some people on here recommend charging the battery regularly which i will probably do every month or so.

I only have the MercedesMe dongle which tells me naff all, and runs my phone battery down in a few hours as it's always looking for the car. Stupid thing.

I have an ELM237 and Torque Pro, I'll have to see what I can get from that. I do short journeys so it's possible the battery is just tired and needs replacing, I'm guessing it is the original battery as it's 6 years old.

The nice thing about MB Brooklands is that you have MB World on site and Brooklands Museum is five minutes' walk away.

Ah nice, sounds like a good day trip when the time comes then! Thanks

The auxiliary battery? From what I've read it keeps the electronics at a stable voltage when the main battery's voltage is fluctuating during starting, and if you have any assist functions, they can go on the blink if there is a problem with it, but it can also affect stop/start operation. Where it is I think depends on model, I believe it is in the passenger footwell on mine but I haven't looked too hard (at all), some I think are under the bonnet when the main one is in the boot...

It'll depend on the model you have as you whether you've got two then. My mercedes me only mentions one battery, it calls it the starter battery but it's the main battery. Start stop pretty much only works when mercedes me says this is 'charged' which now is almost always.
