New Prius World Beater?

'And remember, Comand is not only a satnav unit.'
True. For over £300 squid you can get a bluetooth device to allow you to use your mobile with it. £300 plus for a bluetooth device. Now that is ' havin a larffff "

All Mercedes cars and accessories are expensive. Its the price you pay for driving one of the best cars in the world. I am (fairly) happy to pay Mercedes prices as I honestly believe the goods are worth the extra. If I wasn't, I would drive a Ford or Vauxhall. My choice.
Its why some people go in the Ivy and some go in KFC.

'DaveK,

Alife is well respected here and helps a lot of people out.
Did I say they didn't ?

I'm not going to get into an argument with you DaveK but you stated that he was "some one pedaling the extras for MB's cash hungary Command Systems"

The way that you used the word "pedaling" was derogatory towards Alfie.

It's just another instance of you abusing a fellow member.

Point taken except the Command system is hardly the best system in the world. It has become outdated very quickly . Mine will take hundreds of pounds to make it usable so it sits in my dash in the off position. The maps are missing too many streets to be of any use and i can't use my Nokia N73 with it. At least my mates Prius ( 3 years old ) has up to date maps and we can both use our phones with it

Go buy a Prius and join their forum then!

That sounds like a great idea!

Why hundreds?

All it needs is a new disk, and these can be bought quite reasonably (if you know where to look). A 2006/7 disk can be bought for less than a hundred pounds. Quite a bit less.

I know COMAND is less than perfect, but its the shear convenience of it always being there that does it for me.
And its unlikely to get nicked like an aftermarket unit.

We've been down this road. Forget the Ebay copies, a new disc for mine is £114 if a remember.

DaveK, seriously though, ask Alfie for a price as he usually gives a discount on the MRRP to members.

I am afraid that simply isnt true.

There is a marginal price hike for a Mercedes over a run of the mill comparison car but for that hike, you get far far better technology and build quality. Plus one doesnt look like a prat driving a Prius. I am not saying that you are a prat at all.

Mercedes servicing is in my opinion very reasonable. To run a Mercedes costs less than an equivalent ford or Vauxhall in my opinion.

As for the map cost, just wait a short while;) (about a week)

Servicing costs are skewed due to the labour rate which is no different from BMW/Lexus/Audi rates. Vx/Ford are a lot cheaper. Parts however are similar in price to those for mainstream cars, unless we're talking about bits that aren't fitted to mainstream cars like SBC modules etc...

I remember the ABS pump for the volvo being about 800 quid!

Call from a neutral passive forum user.

Mods. Please can you do something about this DaveK character? It seems that every interesting thread I read nowadays gets derailed by this user making personal attacks on other forum members. It is frankly getting tiring, and personal attacks are explicitly against the rules. I for one would really appreciate it if one of you could have a word.

Thanks,

-simon

Edit: I just discovered the 'Ignore' feature. Now all I see is "This message is hidden because DaveK is on your ignore list." Superb. I didn't know we had this at all (I suppose I never needed it before on this lovely forum!).

'Funny you say that because the sat Nav in her Prius is the most awful piece of kit I've ever come across.'
Thats a bit strong coming from some one pedaling the extras for MB's cash hungary Command Systems

I am not going to be drawn into running you down or rising to the somewhat unfair comments except to say;

In my honest opinion the navigation device in the Prius is awful. There are no ifs and buts about this. I have sat in the thing trying to make it work easily for my mother, its plain horrible and not at all intuitive. I'm not saying that comand is the best thing since sliced bread, its not. There are better navigation systems out there, of that I am sure.

I do not 'peddle' in these goods. I sell them to people who prefer not to pay the dealership prices. Members of good/reasonable standing on this forum alone get a discount. This is not offered on other forums. I/We do this because we like to pay back in some way, the members on this forum that have in past helped us. We also do it because it helps build a nice community of people and hopefully provides some better value for money. We certainly do not make much money at this at all I can assure you. The margins are very low particularly after discounts.

The Comand business was built up after I/we frequented this forum. It was as a result of members here that it is what it is today. Its not our livelihood. It is a hobby because we like Mercedes and we enjoy what we do. If in the meantime we can make a little bit of money out of it and help make some people happy with advice and services, then we have succeeded.

As for advice on this forum we have consistently offered a plethora of advice for free to many many members and will continue to do so. Indeed I believe you yourself have been tipped off to wait for new disk have you not?

I hope you now understand where we at Comand Ltd are coming from and that it in some way helps overcome the upset or anger that you seem to have with pricing.

And I shall be quite happy to buy from you when a suitable and reasonable price is available. I have several business interests and do understand that some times the cost of goods being passed on is out of the control of those doing the passing.

Hopefully only slightly off-topic, but is there any reason why technologies such as regenerative braking should not be installed in all new cars, as it seem to make quite a bit of difference to in town driving in terms of fuel economy and emissions (and noise, bearing in mind ***'s comments:o ).

Only cost, complexity and is it genuinely helping the environment in a worthwhile way. Costly to install regenerative braking and a bank of long-life rechargeable batteries and an electric motor in addition to the main engine. And lots to go wrong. Try and get a Lexus dealer to tell you what it all costs to replace if it goes wrong after 60k miles.

All goes wrong? I can't imagine what would cause that to happen. Like anything there'll be a number of replaceable or repairable components, unlikely to be a total replacement job, yes there'll be some key (and probably expensive) components but it's not like an internal combustion engine where failure of a cambelt can result in the ordering of a crated engine...

Yes, but apart from that!...... Just kidding. Valid points all of them, it just seemed to me to be a quick fix, but should have know better. Perhaps as the technology improves and becomes cheaper.....
