New regulations in France

I was informed by a Frenchman that that is just an urban myth.

Maybe but it is feasible and easily done!;) I think I'll be sticking to 130KPH max this year unless it's raining of course :)

The explanation I got was along the lines of,

"The story about speeding isn't quite true as toll tickets aren't generally timed, but just prior to most peages you will generally have a gendarme with a speed gun who radios ahead to his mates at the toll gates who then checks everything else is in order before escorting you to an ATM to pay your fine!!"

Just came back from Le Mans, at least triple the amount of Le Rozzers than i have seen in the past. All i can say, it must be open season for burglars during that weekend. Plenty in Arnage spoiling the fun.

This is outdated - but a good few years ago (before I drove in Europe - so mid/late 90's) my parents got fined at the booths for speeding...

This was before I was into cars (I started my fuel-hobby on boats ;)) so have no idea how they got caught... but they most certainly got caught! They both stop for a coffee and a toilet break now after every booth :p

More than just spoiling the fun - post on PCGB, chap in a 911 caught doing 157kph in a 90 limit, on the spot 1300 eurosov fine, car confiscated, court date in August, doesn't know if he will get car back or loose it (possibly to the crusher!!!)

Depends on what part of France IIRC.

Some booths do record the time the ticket is taken, and this can be used to prosecute speeders. When Mrs E hired a couple of "nice" cars through her contacts for myself and a friend, we were taken on a high-speed run but had to stop at an aire near the peage station to work out how long to wait before going through.

As the motorway network is run by a number of individual companies in France, not all will be operating in exactly the same way.

Hmm I must be doing something wrong.

Tried a cordial "Bonjour, singes capitulards bouffeurs de fromage" but still got a fine.

Must be my pronunciation

As an aside, re. high-vis jackets I got this from Eurotunnel today
French driving laws

From 1 October 2008, all vehicles driven in France, including vehicles registered outside of France, MUST have one Hi-Viz reflective jacket and one warning triangle in their vehicle. The reflective jacket has to conform to EU standard and must be inside the car – not in the boot. On the spot fines varying between €90 and €135 will apply.
That states only one jacket, rather than one per occupant of the vehicle.
