new SL63

For business there is nothing worse that an estate car with a sloping back, it makes a huge difference as to what you can get in it
And for pleasure too. Gardening stuff, dogs. And try getting all my wife's holiday gear in!:) reminds me of that wonderful advert showing a guy forcing the rear door of a Volvo and the window bursts out.

Looks superb!

However, I don't like the smoked wheels and think that the finishing in shiney/bright standard MB silver paint would look much better and finishing the car off nicely.

4Car today in response to the queries over the design differences in those SLs (which is also talking about diesel AMGs, but that's another story):

"Black Series cars are the pinnacle of AMG's line-up, with only one such model being built at any one time. A new model, probably an SL, will appear in 2008, succeeding the SLK 55 and CLK 63: a fixed-roof version of the SL 63 AMG, with some similarities to the pace car to be used in the forthcoming Formula One season's races. It will weigh around 200kg less than the standard model, and is 'not far off', according to an AMG executive."

The new corporate nose is to clumsy and brash.....

If you look for long enough, it looks a bit like a sulking puppy......anyone see it?

GLK? Does this mean MB are moving into the X3 range? or is this some sort of gimmic to promote asian cars?

Yep GLK is the same segment as the X3 - based on four wheel drive versions of the C-Class and 3-Series respectively.

I think it looks nice, very brawny and muscular. But it seems to have lost some of that trademark SL elegance...

There rae lots of popular 4x4's selling really well below te ML size. Honda CRV, Nissan X trail, Toyota Rav 4, Landrover freelander and so on. Big market. Well worth Mercedes going for it.

Hello

Pictures of the GLK, New SL, C63 Estate etc are on my other thread 'off topic'

Having just been to the Geneva show thought I would share them.

Some nice cars..

Can somebody tell me are we talking about a new SL or a facelifted SL. Originally I thought a facelift was due. But MB blurb seems to be trying to sell this as a new model SL. What's the truth?

This is a face lift as the new one is not due until 2010-2011

All of the main parts are the current ones, they do have new engines, but so did the 2006 cars

So...buy a new one today (3 months wait?) and its really out of date within a couple of years! Shame...

One of the real traditional attractions of Mercs was that they didnt age quickly (in any way) and changes were subtle when they came. Now its a Marketing merry-go-round with change for change's sake in order to sell more cars. Can't blame them from their perspective but it certainly doesn't help residuals = reduces buyers loyalty = less buyers = lower sales. Bitten in their own b*m eventualy :(

They should take a more careful look at what happened when they went "all commercial" with Chrysler. Porche have done a tremendous job with sticking to their customer base and keeping 911 loyalty with subtle change
ie worthwhile product development

The 2006 change was suttle, only the grill (3 slat) and bumper Took on the AMG look) with a few changes inside.

I agree the changes are more dramatic than those 2006 ones

You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me

So thats how you get your information...thought it was something like that!

I was really surprised to hear that. The chages are so out of step to the normal mid-life facelift that we have become used to. As this is a facelift, then what can we expect when they finally fetch out the new model?

regards
John

I say.... leave the classic lines alone

Looks like MB have done the same thing to the SL as they have with the C class coupe......basically identical except for a square looking front end.

Have to say im a huge fan of the "old look" with the round overlapping headlights of the CLK W209, SL R230 and C class W203........and not forgetting the SLR McLaren.

I really hope they dont go and ruin the SLR with a big clumpy square looking front end face lift !!!

Hawk there were a series of AMG diesels around 2001 w/ the C30 CDIs.

I don't believe the GLK is coming to the UK is it? (Good.)
