Bought a 2003 E320CDI earlier in January but unfortunately it's been in the dealers workshop, (a well known multi-franchise trade centre) for longer than its been on my drive getting a 'service brake - visit workshop' code sorted out!! Have scanned the forum and don't like what I see regarding problems with 2003-on model year related W211 SBC issues.

Dealer has fitted an 'overhauled' SBC unit and new wear sensors but the dreaded code returned after just a few miles. Talked to the shop foreman and he says car is off to specialist (suspect one of the outlet's MB dealers) 'to get to the bottom of the problem'.

Latest phone call from the workshop said they are going to fit a new brake light switch as this can kick off the 'service brake' code, then test for a few days. Pick the car up on Friday so will check it out. For anyone with the dreaded code, it may be worth changing the switch, its a cheap option!

Will report how I get on at the weekend.

Interesting forum - loads of great info for the new Benz nut to digest!! Thanks guys.

sorry to hear about the problems and hope its an easy one, simplest things can cause irritating errors, welcome to the forum and keep us informed on how you get on.

Welcome from me too, another new 211 owner. I understood that MB were still replacing SBC units under warranty? I hope you get your car back soon, and it remains trouble free from then on.
