Hello, After a small accident I got my bumper and right head light changed at MB work shop.
All was fine untill I saw that the colour of the light is not the same.

It seems that the old Bi Xenon light are whiter than the new one which are more yellowish ( see picture).
Also it says on the new lamp (the case) its made by Hella.

So I wonder is it just the bulbs that are different?

Thank you for replies.

Hi

You need to change both bulbs at the same time and the same type to ensure a match.

If the new one isnt marked.as hella then nore than likley they have used a pattern part. Which generally cost.at least a third less. What have you actually paid / circumstances? ??

As xenon bulbs age they turn more blue, so its the age of the older bulb that's the issue.

ok thank you. I'll tell the mb work shop.

this is why MB dealers are a piece of S$%t. Dont they know this?

how cant they inform customers of such logical things. As far as 'change in pairs' is concerned.

they take the P$"ss.

I doubt that Hella necessarily means pattern... I would have expected MB to buy lamps from both Hella and Bosch.

I would definitely want both headlamps to be made by the same company, but I am not sure if this is a 'legitimate' requirement you can make to an insurance company given that the manufacturer regards them as 'same'?

Also, if both have the same MB P/N, the dealer may not know what's in the box until the part arrives from central stock? Tricky.

As for the bulbs this is a different story, makes perfect sense to ask the dealer to ensure that both have the same visual appearance.

Will need to check with WIS later tonight, but isn't the offical MB instruction to change these in pairs anyway?

Going by the images above, the older lamp looks more like what I associate with Xenon light (i.e. white with hint of blue). The new lamp looks just like an ordinary non-xenon bulb (i.e. yellow).

All new 4300K bulbs start of fairly yellow and over use turn bright white and then over pro-longed use turn blue/purple thats when you should be looking to change ideally as the light output at this point decreases.

Can you actually see on the bulb it self if its xenon or not and also what
what Kelvin it has?

And what is the original Kelvin colour for mercedes w211 with bi-xenon?

Hi
I've been scouring the Internet for an answer to almost same question re bi xenons
Did the new bulb eventually turn white? What was the final outcome?
Hope somebody reads this and gives feedback.

It can take up to 100 hours for a xenon bulb to settle to its 'correct' colour. It then remains at a stable colour temperature for several hundred more hours before gradually becoming less bright with a slight shift to a pinkish hue.
