ML270 cdi
Hi all first off sorry if I've posted in wrong place just need help and advice please bought my self a ml270 today very clean travelled 245 miles to get got there and guy tells me key wants coding starts car but does not lock or unlock so not to bad knock him down £100 but on way home got on to motorway plodding(wheather bad) when I was able to go for it car wouldn't go over 80mph:devil: sorry to be so long winded hope you can help .

Is it revving over 3000rpm? If not, a limp mode is real. Get the fault codes, rather star diagnosed.

Thanks for your quick reply do I rev it in neutral because I know it doesn't when I'm driving would I have to go to mercs for fault codes or can I buy a code reader off an Internet site and second where do they plug in thanks Ian.

It shouldn't rev >3000 in any state (during drive use tip-tronic), but re-start may erase limp mode for a while. If it comes back, then to the dealer (or MB expert indy) at first place and read the codes.

There are universal fault code readers but unfortunately they are 'universal' in case of Mercedes. Yes, you can read common codes, but deeper diagnostic and tests can be made only with MB own 'star diagnostic'. Bosch and Lauch tester are rather good, but all good system are expensive. Chinese star clone are perhaps cheapest (>300€-1000€ with laptop), but a risky buy if you don't know any expert person who helps you with beginning. And quality of the product also is often, well, 'chinese'.

Is the speed limiter engaged? Is there an orange light on the end of the Cruise Control stalk? If there is, press the end of the stalk inwards to turn off the light and speed limiter.
