Why go for a half way house, go for a w211 E55!
they are going for cheap money now
Cant believe Alps was the first person to mention W211 E55...they are rock bottom at the moment, value for money, power, luxury, reliability (forget SBC scare mongering), without doubt unbeatable buy....oh and did I mention you can officially join the AMG lounge lol
Surely a no brainer decision....
Another vote for the E55 AMG, why have an V8 when you can have a V8 Kompressor.
I'd want to spend £9-10k on a good E55K, one for £6-7k leaves me open to a disaster of a car.
Used PEUGEOT 205 GTI ... for sale - PistonHeads (Ref 1581696)
A bit over budget, but I doubt you'd lose on it.
I had so much fun in one of these in the early '90's...
The 3.2 litre Alfa engine is beautiful to look at and to listen to especially when being extended, however in any front wheel drive car such as the 147 putting down this amount of power and torque you will get understeer and although fun in a straight line it is not a good car around the more iinteresting twisty bits
I watched one of these Alfas doing the hill climb at Brooklands a few weeks back , went well and sounded fab.

So far I've thought of an Alfa 147 3.2 GTA, an M5 4.0 V8 or a W209 CLK55.
I thought you were going to get a 190 16v?
What about you?
