Nice r129 SL ...

Whats a realistic price for one of these Howard?

Not sure Sean ..

Stats007 is the r129 SL expert on here , but i would guess 8 or 9 k , just a guess though ....

Can't see the bids going alot higher than the starting bid. R129 SLs have dropped their price big time! You can pick up a low mileage 1998-9 for £10-11k from auction.

Auction prices still aren't reflecting what good cars are going for privately. A mint 60k mile facelift SL500 on an S plate with panoramic roof would be about £16-£17k depending on colour and spec.

This one £8k at most I would think. A Concours example with less than 100k miles around £11k.

This 1994 500SL sold for £5000 at a recent classic auction.
I think he's being optimistic when he says.. "..which is now beginning to appreciate in value..."

Also "Anthracite grey paint (Highly desireable colour)". Mmm, not sure about that.

Stats007 is right at around £8 grand, I sold my concours winning example for £11k.
This car would have been around £60k new not £80k, also it is a very drab colour........even on the brightest of days!

Really ?

I just can't get my head round £60k for a 3 litre car 10 or 12 years ago ....

You can buy a C55 for less than £60 k new nowadays ....

I don't dispute what you are saying, but if so, they were b***y expenzive !

On my 1997 price list the SL280 is listed at £57,700, and the SL320 is £62,900. Both plus delivery, plates, and road tax.

Some of the options are pretty eye-watering too e.g. £6,786 for AMG split-rims and sports suspension, £3,952 for an AMG body kit, £3,932 for "Exclusive leather interior", £3,561 for adaptive damping, £2,600 for the panoramic hard top - etc.

A centre brake light on the boot lid was a positive bargain at 40 quid! :D

I stand corrected .....

Thats incredible ..... and yet there are so many of them around ....

Lots of people must have had lots of money !!

Thanks Bill
