no LED lights

I thought some LED lights would make the headlights nicer and brighter, but it turned out a mistake.

As those LED lights are 50w, they needs a resistor to get rid off the error message on the dashboard. It is those resistors that are very dangerous. if someone are using them, you'd better to check yours and make sure nothing is melt. In my case, the resistors are over heated and melted through the self-levelling unit. Fortunately, the local garage found it sooner than later. otherwise, it will catch fires.

I wish there was a way of programming out so called can-bus bulb failure warnings. That would be the smart solution as using resistors to me is crazy especially on the high powered bulbs like headlights where the heat dissipation is substantial.

Phillips do a kit - not cheap - but as I would not venture any DIY wiring, (not confident enough) thought of getting it.

Embarking on a mod like that is bound to end in tears if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
What value resistors are those? (at a guess 3.6 ohms)
Hardly surprising they got hot.
Thank you for sharing so that others can be warned.

Tried LED lights and found them to a load of trouble, I went back to bulbs.

the resistors were recommended by the led light sellers on eBay.

They may have been.
I bet they didn't recommend you fit them next to the levelling unit!

Did they also advise that those sort of resisters are designed to be screwed to something metal, preferably with heatsink compound?

In my case, I replaced both the dipped beam light and fog light, It is hardly find any place to screw two resistors to anywhere inside, when clipped the headlight back cover back on.

I may haven't done it correctly. but the point is that these resistors are no good, the wire itself also melted and broke. I bet they are not good quality ones.
