No more £25 charge!

Already A thread on it HERE ;)

Cambridge have also done a U-Turn on the C-Charge coming here (for the meanwhile at least) :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Is this the begining of the end for the Con Charge?

If its the beginning of the end for Con Charges I do hope so. For once it would be a victory for the ordinary folk out there...

But something will take its place...

Up until yesterday TFL still had all the information about how you were going to have to pay £25 to enter central London.

Today there's just this:

"Mayor Johnson stated in his manifesto that he would not proceed with CO2 charging.

Any announcements regarding this policy will be published on this website."

Do I sense the TFL is staffed by eco hippies who don't agree with the duly elected mayor?

Well I think they're self-interested first and foremost. How many more people with 6-figure salaries can they afford now? The junior staff have missed the gravy train.

So when will he scrap the exemption for hybrids - how can that make sense?

Wow, a recursive link - you posted in a thread with a link to itself... ;-)

What is it - you saw the thread and didn't think I was capable of coming up with the first thread on a subject? :P

There is a subtle but crucial point here. Charging is one thing, and can be based on car size, pollution levels etc etc. All this is fine.

But CO2 charging is something very different. CO2 is not pullution and does not affect air quality in the city, as it is a natural and perfectly harmless gas. Whatever effect it has on the planet, is NOT a London issue and should not be charged by the Mayor of London.

Reducing CO2 emissions is a national goal, and the government is doing it through CO2 based VED and other schemes. But there is absolutely no reason why Londoners should pay more than other UK residents for their share in CO2 emissions, simply because it suits the agenda on the (previous) Mayor.

There is absolutly no benefit whatsoever to London or Londoners from reducing CO2 emmissions, and as such the Mayor can not use his position to get Londoners to pay for a campaign that has nothing to do with London...
