Hi folks,
Been out an looked at a few w210 e320 diesel's 2000/2002
Out of 3 I have test drove only 1 has performed like it actually has 192 bhp, the other 2 have not.
On the 2 that did not perform I noticed a lot of oil/sludge around the bottom of the turbo itself an any pipes/wires from harness in that area so I walked away.
Just wondering if this is an easy fix like turbo seals needed or turbo needed? If it's an easy cheap fix that I could still buy the car at a reduced price an fund myself?

Very rare for the turbo to go on these. Oil residue is common /fairly normal in that area provided no excessive - it may be a coincidence. More common causes for the power loss would be EGR or maf, maybe even split pipe. Did the cars kickdown? Could be in limp mode.

Cars kicked down ok.
I had thought maybe a maf or blocked cat on the exhaust.
Just checking with you guys with the knowledge first to see if the turbos where a common fault. I should have added that the 2 that didn't run good where 181,000 mls and 193,000 mls. The good runner was only 128,000 mls and I started to think that at 200,000 mls maybe the turbo needed reconditioned or replaced.

Limp mode would put an engine management light on the dash.. Or would it? Lol I don't know.

Not always, mine used to go into limp occasionally without the light coming on when the intercooler hose had a small split.

Nope. If you had a split pipe, sticky EGR or faulty MAF, none will put the EML on. Mine has done 200k, turbo is fine. Could be a blocked cat, could be coked up as it is common if never cleaned out. Getting it on STAR will help but I appreciate not always possible when purchasing.

That's the problem, a mate of mine was away on holiday for the past week an he is back the day so will get his snap on diagnostic machine with me on the next 1 I go to see.
I looked at an e class on Friday an turned it down due to low power an I told the fella selling the car that's why I wasn't interested because I didn't know exactly what was at fault. Now the fella is texting me wanting to know if I have found out what is wrong with his car lol.
Was a real nice clean straight one as well.

I remember when I had a subaru impreza the air mass metre was faulty an if I unplugged it the car run a bit better an that's how I diagnosed the problem. Would these e320's be the same if I unplugged the air mass metre an the car run better would it prove that it could be the fault?

yes you can unplug the MAF and see if it runs better or the same

Thank you folks for your reply's
